Nutrisystem D Update: Week 3 #NSNation

KayLynn · February 3, 2014 · 8 Comments

kale_chips

This week I attempted to make Kale chips to have for snacks and with lunch.  It’s supposed to be very easy but mine didn’t turn out the way I want.  First of all, the precut Kale I bought at Trader Joe’s had too many stems.  Second, I think I didn’t cook it long enough.  They seemed crispy when I took them out of the oven (and tested a couple) but when I went back hours later they weren’t.

I’ll give it another try soon and when I perfect it, give you the recipe.

Nutrisystem D Foods

week3_nutrisystem_meals

As you can see from this collage, I’m eating good foods.  What you can’t see is how they taste. I loved them all.  I added spinach to the shelf-stable thick crust pizza.  It tasted great but the cheese didn’t melt as well as I would like so next time I’m going to put it under the sauce.

The mushroom-stuffed chicken breast was one of my favorites of the week (that and the lasagne with meat sauce that’s not shown).  I made a pot of vegetable soup early in the week that was really good and filling.  I’m doing the same this week which helps if I feel hungry in-between meals.

Weekly Progress

At my age, I’m thrilled to have three weeks in a row of losses.  The scale showed me down 1.4 pounds even though I haven’t been exercising often enough of late.  It’s seven pounds gone in just three weeks.  Can’t remember the last time that’s happened.

Week Loss/Gain NS Total Overall Total
1 -4.4 -4.4 25.8
2 -1.2 -5.6 27.0
3 -1.4 -7.0 28.4

Kale chips are a bit tricky. They work well with whole leaves, with the stems removed, but not so much with young kale and cut-up kale, as sold in grocery stores. The “curliness” of the whole leaf elevates it, and allows more hot air to circulate and crisp it. Keep at it, and congrats on the downward trend.

Thanks, Kitty. Slow and steady should win the race, right?

So are you enjoying your experience with Nutrisystem? What is the cost breakdown per meal? Per month? Would there ever be a reason to buy their food beyond the purpose of weight loss, maybe if you were someone who didn’t like to cook would it be a good option?

Hi Jon, I am enjoying the food and learning from using Nutrisystem. I’ll share those findings in a future post. With auto-shipment, the food can be under $8 a day. I don’t think they sell it for purposes other than weight loss and maintenance but haven’t researched that question.

One of the reasons I like it is because I don’t like to cook, but I am still cooking a bit with vegetables and eggs.

Thanks, Sarah. I am making a long-term change and it takes time but I’ll get there.
