Nieuw Amsterdam: Disembarkation

KayLynn · May 15, 2019 · Leave a Comment

Our last night’s sleep on Nieuw Amsterdam was not good for me.  My brain started thinking about work and it was hard to turn it off.

I sat out on the balcony for a while enjoying the sea air and could see four other cruise ships; probably all going as slow as possible to get to south Florida in the morning.  Thankfully, I was able to go back to sleep.

Morning and Disembarkation

About 6:30 am we saw the pilot boat before heading to breakfast in the main dining room.

My frittata and bacon was very good.

We picked up our things in our room and took pictures of the other ships in port with us that we could see easily.

There was another Holland America ship.

The Zuiderdam

Two princess ships.

The Harmony of the Seas.

We could also see part of the Celebrity Edge which had just arrived in Florida from Europe.

We had Gray 2 group which was estimated to debark between 8:15 and 8:30 am.

We met YS and SF in the Ocean Bar and our tag color was called about 10 minutes early.  We easily found our bags and went through immigration.  Outside the terminal staff directed us to the Holland America excursion buses where we found the one for Miami Airport transfers.

And then we waited about 30 minutes before all the passengers were on board.  Once we got going it was an uneventful trip to the airport.

Airport Mistake

We checked in our bags with American and visited the restrooms before going through security.  The reason I mention this is because once on the other side, I realized my cell phone was missing.

Since I had used it to look up our air reservation confirmation number at the kiosk I knew it was at one of two places — the kiosk/counter or the restroom.  I headed back out of the secure side and checked both places with no answer.

When I went back to the security line my son called out my name.  Apparently, one of the cleaning staff had found the phone in the stall and called my son on it.  He went back outside security to meet her and get it for me.  Thank you to both!

Air Travel

That was the most eventful part of the day thankfully.  We grabbed something to eat at the airport (I think I picked up empanadas) before our flight boarded and departed at 1 pm.

We changed planes in Dallas and had a good flight to San Diego.  After picking up our bags, we said our farewells to YS and SF before using heading off to our homes via ride-sharing.

Other Documents

Here are some of the other documents from our sailing.

First up is the voyage log.

After a wonderful trip on Holland America again, we’re really looking forward to our March sailing on Nieuw Statendam.
