Nieuw Amsterdam: Cozumel

KayLynn · April 30, 2019 · Leave a Comment

Today Nieuw Amsterdam will be in Cozumel but not until late morning.

Cozumel Morning

I was surprised to sleep until 7 am and found my husband already up at our designated spot in the lido.  After coffee (no spilling today) we headed to the dining room for breakfast at 8 am.

I had the vegetable egg scramble and Steve had eggs, sausage and pancakes.

When we got back to our cabin the room steward was already cleaning so had to wait a few minutes. We got fresh beach towels for Cozumel. We then went our separate ways agreeing to meet in the cabin at 10:45 am.

I went by the photo gallery and added some more photos to our package before heading to the Oprah book club meeting in the Gallery Bar lounge.  I was the only passenger that showed!

The cruise director and I discussed the book for 5-10 minutes.  His wife is one of the piano players at the billboard onboard venue.  Afterwards I turned the book into the front test and went to America’s test kitchen for a session on chiles.

Recipes for this session were for Shrimp Diablo….

And jalapeno poppers.

You definitely get great tips at these sessions.

Then it was time to get ready for our day in Cozumel. The ship cleared right about 11 am and we met the kids shortly after and headed off.

We were at the Punta Langosta pier (downtown) with the Norwegian Getaway and was the last ship to arrive today.  Other ships in port included a Royal Caribbean, MSC, two Carnival (Vista and the Dream) and a Princess.

Nachi Cocum

We got a taxi to Nachi Cocum and from this pier it was $20 for four.

Check in was easy since we were almost the last ones to arrive (one more couple came after us). There was only 3 unoccupied palapas (and after the other late comers, just one) so we were in the back row but still not crowded.

Christian was our waiter (his name tag indicated he was an assistant waiter).

We ordered a round to get started and kept them coming all day.

Lunch included guacamole with chips…

Fried shrimp with french fries…

Chicken quesadilla with rice and beans…

I had ice cream for dessert.

Not sure what these two ate.

Steve and I spent time only on the beach or in the ocean while the “kids” spent time in the pool/jacuzzi.  We left about 4 pm and there were very few people left at this time.

The other two followed 30 minutes later.  We took advantage of the view to take photos in front of our ship.

Cozumel Evening

Once back onboard, I took my first bath and it was wonderful. After we both were clean and dressed it was too late  for the dining room so we ate at the lido buffet.

The line for the Mexican food was pretty long and since we just had it for lunch, we both had roast pork which was very good.

Here’s the buffet menu.

There had been mariachi performance on the after deck by the pool and they were inside eating by us.

After three port days in a row, we were tuckered out so just spent the rest of the evening hanging out with this guy in our cabin. We were asleep before sailaway at 11 pm.
