It’s back to Royal Caribbean for my next cruise. Nope, it’s not on one of Oasis class ships. Instead we’re going on Empress of the Seas on a wonderful eight day itinerary.
My sisters had already selected the date and ship when I decided to join them for a warm weather getaway. More about why to come.
Itinerary
Although I’ve been to all the ports on previous cruises, it has many years since I’ve been to Costa Maya or Roatan and these ports appealed to me along with Cozumel, which never gets old to me.
Key West and Belize weren’t that exciting but eight days for the price of seven sounded good!
Highlights
Here are some of the reasons I decided to jump on board this cruise.
Family
Not only did I get to sail with my two sisters but they were each bringing two family members on the trip. Sister T. brought my brother-in-law who we last cruised with in 2014 and one of her granddaughters. Sister M. had three generations with her son and grandson.
They picked the ship because it had a kids sail free offer and it was their grandkids’ spring break week. The kids and my nephew were all experiencing their first cruise and that is always fun!
Ports
I was ready for some beaches after our colder, Transatlantic cruise and itinerary promised opportunities to lounge in the sun and swim in the surf. I knew exactly where to go for Cozumel and Costa Maya and we did find a beach in Roatan.
Empress of the Seas
Although small, the ship has a lot of fans. Photos showed an elegant ship reminiscent of cruises in the early days of our cruising life (mine started in 1998). Also, since my husband and brother didn’t want to go on this trip, I had booked my first solo cabin.
The cabins on this ship are small so I was happy to be solo. I was able to pick a cabin right around the corner from the rest of the group.
A bonus to having my own cabin is that I will earn double Crown and Anchor Society points that will push me over the threshold for Emerald status.
