COVID-19: 5 Week Update

KayLynn · April 19, 2020 · Leave a Comment

Another week down (that makes five) in the COVID-19 stay at home experience.  This past week was the worst in terms of deaths with nearly double from last week and now over 39,000.  On the brighter side it definitely looks like the curve of new infections has been flattened and governments (local, county, state, federal) are all trying to figure out how to move forward.

Testing is the big bugaboo.  Until there’s adequate testing, not only to see if someone has the disease but also to see who’s immune, how can we go back out? My husband and I are older and have co-morbidities.  Time will tell; I have a feeling we personally don’t have to worry about this for a few more weeks.

In the meantime, we are trying to make the best of things and kitties in the lap like Annabelle above help.

Outings

We got our stimulus money Wednesday so my husband ventured out to the bank to cash a check for his half (we have separate accounts until I retire).   He had to go out for bread mid-week also because we ran out (poor planning).

Last Sunday’s Easter ham

For this week’s shopping I went to Trader Joe’s (and picked up two loaves of bread) while he went to Ralph’s for things not sold at TJ’s.  Then we went to Dream Dinners to pick up our monthly order of meals.  None of these places are allowing you to bring in reusable bags any longer.  Safety over the earth right now.

Pesto salmon with cheese crisp from Dream Dinners

I did some online shopping and want to know why Costco can ship me a new set of pajamas in two days but Amazon is taking a week to ship just about anything.

Other Things

We had warm sun a couple of days this week but it was back to cloudy, cooler temperatures on Friday and rain yesterday.  I did take short walks those two sunny days and it felt so good to be out in the fresh air!  Our 10 day forecast shows warm temperatures returning Wednesday and no rain.

DeCluttering Projects

Today we’ll finish up the master bathroom vanity drawers and then I’ll have to figure out next decluttering site.

The shoe rack I ordered last weekend arrived yesterday and I am happy to have the closet floor clear again.  The other half of my shoe collection are in an over the door shoe organizer.

Masks

It looks like masks will be in our future longer than we first thought so I ordered reusable masks and filters on Etsy this week.  I’ll take photos when they arrive.  I looked on Amazon but either they were quite expensive or were going to take 2-3 weeks  or more to arrive.

Telemedicine

I had a minor medical issue this past week and needed a doctor’s appointment.  I sent a message early in the morning and her nurse set me a same day appointment when she started work.  My doctor called a little late (but no different than in office appointments in that respect) and she was able to assess and prescribe an antibiotic.

That was another trip out of the house my husband made for me while I worked.  My doctor wants me to get lab work done which is due but said I could wait another month.  She indicated there’s really little to no risk for lab visits.

Family News

There were several family birthdays this week.  My youngest son had his birthday as did two of my nephews.  This coming week is my brother’s, my husband’s brother and one of our grandsons.  April is a big month.

My older son is an EMT and he’s seeing a lot of COVID-19 patients where he lives.  He said he’s never seen people so sick as they are with this virus.

This Coming Week

With the better weather, I’m going to increase my walking.  Otherwise nothing planned other than working and staying  home.   How is your stay at home time going?
