Inauguration-01-20-2009

Welcome to the Inaugural edition of the Carnival of Healthy Living.  The Carnival of Healthy Living is a collection of recent blog posts on fitness, nutrition and health.

I hope you enjoy reading this week’s submissions as much as I did and learn a little something about inaugurations as well!

Diet & Nutrition

SC-CC18209

The shortest inaugural presidential address was by George Washington in 1793 (his second) with just 135 words.  We may think modern presidents have become long-winded but they don’t come close to the 1 hour and 45 minute speech by William Harrison (who also had the shortest presidency).

Hero Health Room shares six reasons a plant-based diet works for him. Find out if you should consider this nutritional plan.

Read the personal story of starting the Daniel diet plan at The Extra Edge. I’ll be following around to see how she likes it.

Healthy Boomer Body shares how to lose 72,000 calories a year with one small change.  Those little things sure do add up but I never realized how much!

Learn how to make Greek yogurt in a dehydrator with this article from My Cultured Life.

Athlete at Heart advises to eat the way that works for you.  I whole-heartedly agree!

It’s cold and flu season and Nutriclub has natural solutions to fight back.

Fitness

Every president has taken the oath of office with his hand on a bible with the exception of one.  Did you know or guess it was Theodore Roosevelt?

Fitness for Professionals demonstrates seven different variations of push-ups.  That’s an exercise I struggle with so found it very interesting.

Health

Every inauguration has had a parade but they’ve not always been inclusive.  African American men first participated in Abraham Lincoln’s second in 1865 and women didn’t get to join until 1917.

I like a good nap and am glad to read Catching Those Midday Z’s: The Benefits of Napping from Fit and Healthy Lifestyle.

Urban Naturale shares 25 green resolutions for a new you in the new year!

Thanks for reading the carnival. A big thank you to all of this week’s participants. The next edition will be February 10th at  Next week’s edition will be held at Athlete at Heart. Help the Carnival grow and head over to the submissions page to learn how to get your post in!
