Weekly Keto Update #1

KayLynn · August 6, 2018 · Leave a Comment

A new Health, Wealth and Travel feature will be weekly updates on the previous week on the ketogenic way of eating.  I’ve been highlighting it in a shorter format in the Weekly Tales posts, but for those readers who aren’t interested they can now skip the Monday posts and it keeps the content more focused.

Progress

My goal is reverse metabolic syndrome and lose weight in the process with a ketogenic diet.  I have lost 11 pounds since starting this protocol seven weeks ago but have a lot more to let go.

I’m going to be tracking blood ketone and glucose levels regularly as well.

New Products

I bought a few new to me products this past week.

Keto Mojo

I haven’t measured my own blood glucose readings for quite some time.  I never got into the habit and was discouraged by my readings.  I was measuring ketones with urine sticks but those are really best used at the beginning of a ketogenic way of eating as once you’re fat adapted, it’s not meaningful.

To measure both metrics with one tool, I recently purchased a Keto Mojo.

I used it for morning measurements yesterday for the first time.  I was thrilled with my ketone level…

My fasting glucose number not so much.

Keto Bars

I saw a couple of reviews that were very positive for Keto Bars and I liked the macros on them so took a chance and bought a sampler pack of 10 bars.  Fortunately, it was a safe gamble as they are very tasty!  I’m packing three for this week’s business trip.

RapidFire Ketogenic Creamer

While staying at my son’s house, I didn’t have my bottle of liquid MCT oil for keto coffee.  Someone in one of the facebook groups I belong to shared they bought a powdered ketogenic creamer at Walmart and I knew it was the ticket.

I used this there and plan to take it on other trips.  Unfortunately, there was no room in my carry-on this week because I had to pack for three nights but it should work next week!

In other news I posted a video about the July Keto Krate items on Youtube. It’s a media I plan to use more moving forward but boy is there a learning curve! I hope you find it helpful.

Food and Recipes

I tried a couple of new to me recipes this week.  The first was a bacon cheesburger casserole.

This recipe from Lowcarb-ology is a keeper and I have a couple of servings in the freezer for later this week.  I also made egg loaf for breakfasts with extra servings in the freezer.

This one is just a ratio of one egg to one ounce of cream cheese to one tablespoon of butter.  I used eight of each with some cinnamon and baked it for 40 minutes.  It’s like a custardly french toast.

We also picked up a rotisserie chicken from Costco for dinner a couple of nights.

There was a lot of dining out at the end of the week between book club and my older son and his wife being in town.  I shared a picture of the farmhouse burger I had Thursday night in yesterday’s weekly tales post.  Friday night it was halibut on a bed of spaghetti squash with marinara sauce and mushrooms.

Dessert was a cheese plate (I skipped the bread and fruit).  Saturday was a California cobb salad that was very good.

All in all, it was a pretty good keto week.  I’m traveling this week and that’s always a challenge when it comes to dining and the menus are preplanned.

I’ll do the best I can and let you know how it goes next week. Keto on!
