Weekly Chronicles: Daylight Savings Time Edition

KayLynn · March 10, 2013 · Leave a Comment

Today's Features: DST

Hopefully by the time you read this your clocks are set and you’re not late for work or church this morning.  Let me take this opportunity to bitch complain about daylight savings time.  First instituted during World War I our nation went back and forth on it until it was permanently adopted in the 1970’s during the energy crisis.

The interesting thing is that studies have shown it doesn’t save energy or public safety.  In fact, it’s bad for our health.  Cardiac events increase greatly following the leap forward on our clocks.   There are more car accidents, suicides and just generally cranky people from throwing off our body’s circadian rthym and the subsequent lack of sleep.

Now that I’ve ruined brightened your morning let’s get to highlights from the web last week!

Around the Web

Money Beagle says to get that loaf of bread out of the refrigerator.  Read why while I run over to the kitchen and rescue ours.

This turkey and black bean chili from Family Balance Sheet looks so yummy!

The Lean Green Bean teaches how to make healthy microwave popcorn.

I’m interested in container gardening since all we have as outdoor space are two patios and one balcony.  Natural Fit and Frugal shares some inspiring ideas.

Laloosh has a great looking recipe for Chicken, roasted red pepper and goat cheese sandwich.

I shared my love for Fitbit last week but Sneakers and Fingerpaints tested another wireless activity tracker you might like.

So Over Debt exercised and didn’t die. This is the encouragement I need before my first pilates class today!

Make your own taco seasoning with this recipe from Hello Paper Moon.  I just left out the salt since it’s a problem for me.

You Have More than You Think says you’re never too old, fat or broke to change direction.  I wholeheartedly agree!
