Tales From the Scale: Restaurant Strategies

KayLynn · February 16, 2015 · Leave a Comment

When my Weight Watchers leader asked how many people eat out every week I was surprised at how many people don’t do so regularly.  As one who eats out at least once a week, the topic of restaurant strategies for healthy eating never gets old.

We came up with this list of tips to help stay on plan while dining out.

  1. Research menu in advance.
  2. Order first so you won’t be influenced by the choices of your dining companions.
  3. Start with a salad first with dressing on the side.
  4. Sip water between bites.
  5. Have half your entree boxed right away.
  6. Order meat grilled or broiled.
  7. Order sauces on the side.
  8. Substitute veggies for starch side.

What strategies do you use when eating out?

Food Plan

This will be hard to believe, but I only took one photo of food all week!  We dined out for breakfast last weekend and I had the FitFare Omelette on the senior menu at Denny’s. (I don’t consider myself a senior but it’s for people 55 and over.)

Sunday, I had some pork ribs and potato skins instead of a healthy dinner when we watched the Super Bowl.  I only ate non-Nutrisystem food on other time during the week when I went to a movie screening Tuesday night (more about the movie later this week).

We ate at Panera and I choose very wisely!  I had the chicken noodle soup and half of chicken Fuji apple salad.  Never did eat my baked chips that came with it.

hiking

Sunday we hiked by a nearby lake and my husband took this picture of me on the way back.  Very beautiful but hot (80’s) and I was happy when the four mile trek was over.

Weigh-In

With five days of exercise and seven days of tracking I lost another .8 pound which brings the total loss to:

-47.0 Pounds

Three more pounds to the big “5-0” and the fifth week in a row with a loss.  Woo hoo!

 Challenges Ahead

If you asked me last Thursday about this week I would have said no problem.  But then my world was rocked Friday morning when it was announced the company that employs me is being sold.  I have to admit to emotional eating the past two days.

I am ready to get back to the business of losing weight starting today with my 5 am Kaia FIT class to be followed by a healthy breakfast.

How did your week towards great health go?
