Tales from the Scale: Week 10

The theme at Saturday’s Weight Watchers meeting was all about liquids.  What counts as a serving?  Just about any liquid counts towards the daily total: juice, soup, coffee, etc.

A new thing was that vegetable juice doesn’t count towards your vegetables and fruit servings.  Our leader didn’t say anything about fruit juice but I try to avoid it anyway. For the discussion on portion size, the leader brought an assortment of glass sizes and had volunteers come up and measure 4 and 8 oz. respectively.  One lady was spot on and the other was way over.

Weigh-In

I had a small gain last week and that darn scale didn’t move until the morning of weigh-in.  My husband heard a shout and knew I was going to be happy.  How much down?  It was minus 1.4 pounds for the week making the…

Total Loss: 15.2 Pounds

That meant I was awarded another 5 lb. sticker.  Oh, the little things bring a lot of joy. 🙂

Weekly Movement

Last week’s exercise went as planned.  No workout on Monday, but then alternating pilates classes and walks Tuesday through Friday at 6 a.m. every morning.  We did get a good walk in Saturday but took a shorter, slower one on Sunday with the dog.  He loves to smell everything!

I also spent some time on my foam roller as my calves are sooo tight!  It hurt but in a good way.  I’m thankful to my pilates instructor, Heidi, who pointed me to a great online resource at AshleyBorden.com.

Tracking Changes

I mentioned in yesterday’s menu plan post that I’m transitioning to a plant-based diet.  It makes sense to try the simply filling tracking now.  This means I mostly eat what Weight Watchers calls “power foods”.  Power foods don’t require counting points although I do still track what I eat.

Activity points and the weekly 49 point allowance can be used for non-power foods.  For me, these are mainly foods that are not in their whole state such as vegetable juice or hummus.

The cool thing is that I can switch back and forth every day if I wanted.  This makes it easier to track on days I’m not able to eat as many whole foods as usual or even choose some processed foods.

How did your week towards great health go?

Well, I made the decision to start drinking some green tea on a regular basis, but I haven’t started doing it yet (just brought in some tea to work today) nor have I decided how often or when, but taking that first step is hopefully a good movement in the right direction 🙂 Good work on your end, you’re much further along!

Money Beagle, that first step is important progress. At one recent Weight Watchers meeting our leader asked us to write down one action we can take to a healthier life and then do it that week. Mine was to put together the Xbox I bought for exercise games and I did it. I didn’t exercise but I was that much closer.

Little steps add up to big steps!
