Tales from the Scale: Healthy Guidelines

KayLynn · May 20, 2014 · Leave a Comment

tales-from-the-scale

I missed last week’s Tales from the Scale, but I didn’t miss my meeting. In fact, Saturday members who had attended the last four meetings were awarded their choice of a box of Weight Watchers Smoothies Mix or Mini Bars. I selected the smoothies in Coconut flavor. I think they will be really good with a banana added.

We talked about healthy guidelines and it was surprising how many of us didn’t have all of them down pat. Basically they have to do with eating at least so many:

  • lean protein
  • fruits and vegetables
  • healthy oils
  • low-fat dairy
  • liquids (not necessarily water)
  • whole grains

I don’t agree with Weight Watchers on a lot of these (i.e. not requiring the liquid be water) but think they’re great for people that don’t know how to start eating healthier. Also, I think nuts and avocados should be considered a healthy oil.

Food Plan

Getting to my goal range of protein is hard. I’m having protein at every meal and snack but it still isn’t the percentage I want and carbs are too high. I probably need to increase my exercise and calories to make the percentages work out better.
smoothie-meatloaf-saladHere is a picture of some of the meals I had this week.  That green smoothie for breakfast is very good.  This one was made with almond milk, banana, spinach, chocolate protein powder and a little ice.  I made the meatloaf (top right) for dinner Sunday with roasted brussels sprouts and a side salad.  Last but not least is #MyDelicous entry made at Souplantation.

Weigh-In

Last week I ate within my ranges and the right foods, but the week before was not so good. I made good choices my business trip to Sacramento but when I got home went crazy with sugar, sugar, sugar in the form of candy and ice cream. Getting on track the second week saved the day because I lost .2 pounds bringing the total weight loss to:

-31.2 Pounds

Challenges Ahead

As I mentioned Sunday, I’ll be traveling to Boston this week for a quick trip. I hope to repeat my healthy selections during the trip but avoid what happened afterwards. Knowing it’s a danger is half the battle.

How did your week go? Any challenges coming up?
