Melrose and I attended SheCon Expo 2012 in Orlando Florida. Read part one on the conference and sponsors.
Blog conferences always seem to have extra events to attend, both official and unofficial. Some are open to all and some will be by invite only. SheCon Expo 2012 seemed to have primarily official events programmed right into the agenda.
Conference Events
We arrived too late for the pre-conference meetup in the Rix Lounge at the hotel. It was a no-host sip and socialize event. We stopped by after grabbing a quick bite to eat and met a few ladies that were still chatting including a familiar face from last year’s SheCon, Nicole from By Word of Mouth Musings.
Day One Events
The next event was the Subway Sponsor Suite at Lunch. Subway and Pixar (Disney) teamed up to promote Kids Fresh Fit Meals and the movie Brave respectively.
We all received one of the six designs of the Subway Kids Fresh Fit reusable lunch bags filled with a gift card, nutritional information, pedometers and this weekly activity planner which is ideas on how to kick-start fitness and make it fun.
In addition to Subway sandwiches and apple slices, we had a salad bar to round out the meal.
The Fresh Fit Funfest was open to the attendees’ families and we had special appearances from Minnie and Mickey Mouse in addition to face painting and more.
Proof we really are a couple of big kids!
There were a couple of evening events the first night. We attended the Chic Suite where makeup artists and chair massages were offered. Unfortunately, the makeup artists got caught in traffic so Melrose and I missed out but we sure enjoyed the massages!
Attendees received a bag which included a Pixiglow Magic Tink lip tint from Pixi. While waiting for our massages I took advantage of the cookies from Udi’s Gluten Free. They’re so delicious I can’t believe they’re gluten-free!
The snickerdoodles are my favorite!
The Wine Sisterhood had a get together in their suite but it must have been so relaxing I didn’t take any pictures. You know, there was wine, food and hand massages. Did I mention the wine?
Day Two Events
Real Mom Media had a meet-up during lunch the second day that was a gifting suite. We got to see and play with some of the toys that later on attendees won. There was a nice gift bag that included a Charm It! bracelet set and an activity book and crayons from Alex toys.
The last official event was the Hidden Mickey Scavenger Hunt. Ashley & Robin Reeve shared a list of hidden Mickey Mouse ears at the parks and Downtown Disney. The first ones to tweet images of three hidden Mickey’s from each park would win a prize.
If you wanted to meet the author of Hidden Mickeys, Steven Barrett, and hang with Robin (theWDWDads.com) and Ashley (www.acupofdisney.com) the place to be was Downtown Disney.
Here’s a example of a hidden Mickey.
Although I found out after getting back home that I won a $25 Disney Gift card and an autographed copy of Steve’s book that wasn’t the highlight of the night. Nope, it was getting my picture taken with Martie Duncan and Emily Ellyn from Food Network Star.
Emily Ellyn and me.
Both were warm and gracious! At the time we met, both were still in the running. Martie is a blogger who became a finalist! I can’t wait to buy her first cookbook.
