Our landing in Frankfurt was smooth and we had to go down stairs and take a bus to the terminal. The line for immigration was very short and I had no issues.
I then found my gate after finding a restroom and a coffee machine (2 euros).
After mastering the machine (with a little help) I got a small cup of espresso.
While waiting for my flight I bought a bottle of water from a machine for 3 euros.
Flight to Barcelona
Once boarding started, I was quickly onboard and in my window seat. As opposed to my 1/2 full flight over, this one was completely full.
The scenery over the Alps was incredible.
Me and the lady next to me were taking pictures of it but they don’t do it justice.
We were served a half sandwich (choice of cheese or salami).
I went with salami which was very good and tomato juice.
Barcelona Arrival
When I landed, it was a bit of a walk to the baggage claim area which was fairly empty. Our bags came quickly and I had already had text messages that my driver was waiting in the arrivals hall.
I had booked a pickup with Welcome pickups and the driver had my name on an iPad waiting for me. He took my large bag and I rolled the small one as he led me to his Prius taxi. He loaded the bags and gave me a map in addition to a small bottle of water. Very nice!
He was helpful and had great information on the way to the Park Hotel. Once here, my sister was waiting in the lobby for me and we went up to the room.
First Evening in Barcelona
It’s a small room but has all the necessities and is nice and quiet. (I took some pictures another day). Once I got settled and cleaned up a little, we headed out for dinner. We walked around the neighborhood and found a lot of restaurants on Passeig Del Born.
We found a place, Calabrasa, that was empty (as it was only 5 pm) but open for business.
They were willing to modify their paella offering to make it without mussels and included chicken, pork, shrimp and calamari.
We ordered that along with a couple of tapas. The fried artichokes were okay.
We also had a meat platter.
I went with the sangria and Sister T had a coke.
It was all delicious and the service was great! Despite our best efforts, we could not finish it all.
What a wonderful way to start my trip! We went back to our hotel and had a key made for me before heading upstairs. I crashed before 8 looking forward to a couple of days in Barcelona.
