Norwegian Epic: Cannes and Nice

KayLynn · July 30, 2017 · Leave a Comment

Today is day 6 of our Norwegian Epic cruise which means we are anchoring off Cannes, France.  The alarm went off at six and we got ready for the day and met our brother for breakfast at the Taste restaurant.

I just took pictures of foods we hadn’t had before.  Someone had the fruit and yogurt parfait.

My eggs were overcooked (ordered over medium) but still good.

We had tender group A which left just 15 minutes for us after eating to get to the Manhattan Dining Room to wait for boarding.  Right on time, they started boarding the tender and it was impressively orderly.

Cannes

The tender ride to Cannes was quick and gave us 15 minutes before our guide, Cyril arrived.

The four of us booked the “Best of the French Riveria” tour via ItalyTours.eu for 89 euros each.  We had a nice young couple from Long Island join us for the day and we fit comfortably in the 8 person van.

We asked Cyril about a stop at the Cannes Starbucks (for mugs).  Fortunately, Peter and Melissa collect mugs and didn’t mind the stop.

I had looked it up earlier and knew it wasn’t too far out of our way.

The store happened to be in a shopping center so we all made our purchases and took advantage of the restroom for a .50 euro fee.

Nice

We then headed to Nice.

Cyril parked in a garage that was very cool.  It had lights that showed green if a stall was empty and red when it had a car.  Wish we had this in the states.

We all walked to the Fontaine du Soleil with Apollo in all his glory in the middle.

Each of the five sculptures around him are unique and represent Earth, Mars, Saturn, Venus, and Mercury.

Earth

It was a short walk to the Cours Saleya market in old town.  The market was just plain amazing.

Apparently there’s another market for wholesale flowers.  These stands were just for people who wanted flowers for their home or hotels.

I now wish I bought some of these soaps.

Our tourmates are in this photo on the right.

This is not how mushrooms are displayed at my local farmer’s market.

Spices!

There was a lot I wanted to buy but limited myself to lavender and a couple of water colors (15 euros for two).

Once we got to the market, my sisters went at their own pace while our brother and I kept up with Cyril (at least for a while).

This building was at the end of the market street. You can see cafes along both sides of the road.

Once we were at the end of the market we headed back and found a cafe to stop at for a hurried drink and croissants (one chocolate and one plain) which were the last ones available.

There were a couple of interesting buildings I found along the walk back to our meeting spot by the garage.

The famous la Petite Maison restaurant

The rest of our tour will be covered in the next post.  I can tell you that Nice is definitely a city I want to come back to for a longer visit.
