Nieuw Statendam: San Juan

KayLynn · August 24, 2019 · Leave a Comment

Today the Nieuw Statendam will arrive in San Juan early in the afternoon so the day started off like a sea day.  For us, we treated the entire day that way as we had no plans in port.

Morning at Sea

After sleeping in until 7 am (for us) I I found Steve at his usual place and had coffee before we went to the dining room around 8 am.

This morning Steve had scrambled eggs, bacon, ham and pancakes.

My order was the ham and cheese skillet.

Not my favorite but okay.  After breakfast we hung out in our cabin and balcony reading and relaxing.

We then went to the room to read and relax.

San Juan Afternoon

Shortly afternoon we had our first sight of land.

This is the view to the starboard side pulling in.  The view from the port side was more impressive.

This is the Castillo San Felipe del Morro which is very scenic as we sail into San Juan.

We headed to lunch at the New York Deli where I enjoyed a delicious pizza.

Steve had a meatball sandwich.  I loved the venue plates.

Dessert was gelato (chocolate and pistachio).

We then spent the rest of the afternoon enjoying the empty pool and jacuzzis as others were ashore.

San Juan Evening

After last night we skipped happy hour but did go to the dinner in the main dining room. It was very empty since the. Ship was still in port until 11 pm.

My first starter was seafood deviled eggs.

Steve selected had the cobb salad entree as a starter.

I also had the spicy shrimp bisque which was very good but lived up to the spicy part. 🙂

For entrees, I went with the Yankee pot roast.

Steve had the jerk chicken.

We received a surprise birthday dessert which was as tasty as good to look at (no, not gluten or sugar free).

The chef’s choice for my sf,gf dessert was rice pudding.

Steve had a blueberry ice cream sundae.

We walked around the promenade after dinner and checked out the crow’s nest before settling in our cabin for the night where we found a turkey!
