Liberty of the Seas: Disembarkation

KayLynn · December 31, 2017 · Leave a Comment

Today we leave the Liberty of the Seas and return to our respective homes.   I was so focused on the day’s activities there are no photos.

Breakfast

Steve and I were up early and had coffee as usual in the cafe promenade (I had my last latte there).  The ship actually docked in Galveston very early (3 am?) because of planned diving operations that day so we didn’t get to see anything as we arrived in port.

We went back to the room to drop our books off before breakfast and I knocked on A2 and J’s door to remind them we were meeting in the main dining room in 10 minutes.  As it turns out, the alarm wasn’t set right the night before and they were still sleeping!

Needless to say, we got seated in the dining room a little later than planned but still had a good breakfast together.  After we all went back to our cabins to pick up our belongings and vacate them before 9 am deadline.

Disembarkation

By the time A2 and J got to us (they were behind in packing up due to oversleeping), our number had been called.  They had towels with them that needed to be turned in so we waited while J took them to guest services.

We then left as a group and it was pretty easy to get off and to the luggage area.  Steve and I found our two suitcases easily so I headed to immigration thinking he was behind me.  He was helping someone else in our group find theirs so I had to back out of the station (there was literally NO line) since I had his passport.

We all made it through although J was given a bit of a hard time because he and Ashley went to separate windows (because she had passport) AND he only had a birth certificate.  I found the experience so much better than last time I returned here on the Carnival Triumph.  Maybe because they don’t have you go through customs anymore?

I let Susan from Lady Bird Transportation know we were outside and the area.  We ended up watiing about 30 minutes as traffic at the port was very busy.

Once the luggage was loaded it was a smooth trip to the Houston Hobby Airport.

Travels

A and Y were leaving about the same time as us while J and A2 had a couple more hours but a nonstop flight.  We all said our goodbyes outside security as we were taking three different airlines.

I grabbed lunch at the Mexican restaurant near our Southwest Airlines gate (expensive) before we boarded for flight to Dallas.  We had short layover and our flight to San Diego arrived home a few minutes early.

We took Lyft home to end our wonderful trip.

As it turns out, A2 and J got stuck in Houston overnight due to weather in Kansas.  🙁 They did make it home the next day.

Here is the Disembarkation Instructions for today.  Click for the full PDF.

I’ll have one more post with photos I took throughout the ship.  I’m a big fan of this ship and can’t wait for my next Royal Caribbean cruise in 2018.
