COVID 19: 3 Week Update

KayLynn · April 5, 2020 · Leave a Comment

Today completes three weeks of sheltering at home.  I’m fortunate that I can work from home and in fact do it regularly in normal times.  You know, when we’re not having a pandemic. 😎

Even with this situation, some things happened of note.

Grocery Shopping

We tried to shop last weekend but there were long lines at all the local grocery stores when we went out so we just came back home and decided to hold out hope for Tuesday’s senior hour at Walmart.  That turned out to be a good decision.  Even though it was busier than I would think at 6 am, we found just about everything on our (long by this time) list.

It was also the first time we wore face masks while shopping.  During the week Kroger announced longer and earlier senior hour (really hour and a half at Ralphs) and we decided to try it today.  We had a much shorter list but I did get ingredients for easter dinner and it was not nearly as busy as Walmart on Tuesday.  (Note they had toilet paper but NO butter!)

Reading

I had just checked out three books when the library closed on March 16th and finished them up last weekend.  I decided to try checking out ebooks (Sister T. did this on our Transatlantic cruise and read them on her phone).  My library uses the CloudLibrary app and I found it super easy to use.

Not only can I checkout the books on the app but also on the library website.  I’ve been reading them on my iPad and have already finished two books this week.  My husband hasn’t gotten there yet, but he will be running out of books soon.

You can see what I’ve read this year on the Reading Challenge page.

Birthday Coupons

Not only was it my granddog’s birthday this week (Stella turned two) but my birthday is this coming week.  I got a lot of birthday emails with coupons.  I was surprised how many restaurants didn’t change the content of the coupons due to the pandemic.  Kudos to the ones that did like Denny’s.  They sent a coupon good for a stack of pancakes on any take out or delivery order now plus a grand slam when the restaurants open back up for dining there.

The worst are the ice cream dessert ones.  Yeah, I’m not ordering ice cream delivery.  Can you imagine how that would go?

Decluttering Project

Last weekend I decluttered the book cases and ended up with four boxes of books we no longer needed.  For now they’re waiting in the storage room for the donation centers to open back up. The project for this weekend was my master bedroom closet.  I went through the clothes not that long ago but the shelves are overflowing with stuff.  I’m sure there’ll be a lot of donation items along with trash.

This Week

In addition to my birthday, there will be rain four days in a row starting tomorrow.  I guess it really is the best time to have it since we won’t have to drive in it.

Otherwise, it’s a normal work at home week and try to find interesting things to do in the evening.  I’m definitely cooking more but that’s also because I’m not out there traveling.

We’ll continue to limit out outings as much as possible and stay positive.  The hard part is not knowing how long things will stay this way but we’re all in it together.
