Carnival Vista: Cozumel

KayLynn · September 22, 2021 · Leave a Comment

Today we’re going to be in Cozumel.  It’s one of my favorite ports.  After coffee at the Java Cafe I headed to breakfast in Horizon dining room.

This morning I had the Spanish omelet, along with a toasted bagel.

The omelet was better than yesterday’s selection but needed salt.

On the way out, I looked at the dinner menu and decided to eat at Cucina del Capitano instead.

I was able to make a reservation on the app for 6:30 pm.

Day in Cozumel

After getting ready I left the ship about 9 am and made the walk to the taxi area. Lots of shopkeepers were trying to get people to stop at their businesses.

I waited at the taxi area for someone going to Mr. Sanchos and found two women who agreed to share the cab. This saved us all money.

Once there, it was an easy check-in. I found a table with palapa and two chairs and picked it for the day.

Johnny was my waiter and took care of me all the time I was there. I started with a dirty monkey and never varied other than also having a bottle of water.

This is the view from the other side of my table.

Before eating I visited the pool and found a seat at the swim-up bar.  This is where I had an unpleasant experience. The guy next to me asks where I’m front. I say San Diego and he proceeds to tell me how awful it is and should be walled off from the rest of the country. “Hell on earth” is how he put it. How do you respond to that?

I just ignored him until I left. I did chat with a mom and teenager there who were very nice and told me about their tours in the other two ports.

Back in my chair I perused the menu.

I ordered guacamole and chips to start.

This was followed with a shrimp cocktail.

I had fried shrimp for the main entree.

It was all very good and I continued to stay with the same drink for the day.  After a swim in the ocean,  I left about 1 pm.  On the way out I stopped at the shops there and bought a bottle of vanilla.  I don’t bake often but was almost out of the bottle I bought years ago in Mexico.

Another couple was leaving at the same time and we shared a taxi.  They didn’t quite split it three ways but it was still cheaper than going by myself.

Once onboard I ordered the chocolate surprise. They said it would be delivered at 6 pm (I wanted 5 or so). Then I showered before napping.

I woke up to a knock about 3:30 pm. It was my chocolate surprise and for some reason I got two.

I hate wasting them so will do my best.  The Vista left port promptly at 4 pm.

Evening on Cozumel Day

After getting ready for dinner I went to Alchemy for a drink. This time I ordered Forty is the new Twenty.

It was so good I had a second to take with me to dinner.  The restaurant was fairly full when I got there but as it emptied out not many people were coming in after me.

Here is the menu.

I really enjoyed the unexpected entertainment.

The complimentary garlic bread was delicious.

I limited myself to one piece so I could eat dinner. My appetizer was arancini.

Very good but too much for one person.  My entree was the short rib.

It was delicious but just too much meat. I picked spaghetti for the side.

Dessert wasn’t my favorite.  This is the biscotti sandwich with gelato .

The gelato was tasty but the rest was a fail for me.

All in all, it was a good dinner but not nearly as good as JiJi’s. I think I would skip this in favor of the steakhouse; although there is a price differential. Everyone I talked to that went to the steakhouse said it was excellent.

I went straight from the restaurant to the main showroom for a comedy show. The first comedian was really good. I didn’t enjoy the second one. Just not my style of comedy.

Then it was back to the cabin to read and watch food network. In my cabin I found an invitation to the platinum/diamond cocktail event and this lobster.
