We were so glad to have a sea day after visiting five ports in a row (counting San Juan). Not only is it our first sea day, but it is a Throwback Sea Day which is a Carnival Journeys event. They turn the clocks back to 1987 (don’t know how that year was selected) bringing back programming, menus and even having a Carnival Capers!
Judging from the low number of pictures I took, it was a day of relaxation for me only broken up by meals. 🙂 After breakfast, I did see the entertainment staff at the pool for morning stretch in their 80’s workout clothes. It was entertaining but not much of a workout.
I’m sure we spent time by the pool before getting ready for sea day brunch in the main dining room.
We were seated at a table for eight but only a couple were friendly. After this experience, we decided to get a table for two when having breakfast or lunch in the main dining room.
I started off with the flaming tomato soup which was very good.
For entree, I ordered the pork chop. It was very good. It was supposed to come with sides (fries and bbq beans) which didn’t happen. Since I had plenty of food, I didn’t ask for them.
I had the banana cream pie for dessert and Sister T. had the double brownie.
Both were excellent! After that I stopped by the Sweet Shop to buy Journeys commemorative pins. While there I took a couple of pictures for my candy-loving husband.
There’s something there for every taste.
Before too long it was time to get ready for formal night. It was a throwback formal night so I brought a long gown for the occasion.
After getting ready, we headed to the Captain’s cocktail party in the main showroom. We arrived about 10 minutes after it started and the room was packed. The staff passing appetizers did a great job of making sure all rows were served but our area had terrible luck getting drinks for a while.
Appetizers included fried shrimp, mini quiche, Swedish meatballs and…
Pigs in a blanket. Can’t remember the last time I had this appetizer. Simple yet very tasty!
We left the party with enough time for a visit to the Alchemy Bar. On the way, we stopped at the Taste Bar which had my favorite menu of the cruise.
Even though we just had appetizers and were not that far away from dinner, I had to imbibe!
They were delicious as was my cocktail.
Sister T and I had our picture taken by a friend.
On to the dining room. As you can imagine I wasn’t terribly hungry at this point so I ordered lighter than normal from the throwback menu.
I started with the chilled strawberry bisque.
Since we just had the lobster and shrimp a couple of days prior, I ordered the spaghetti carbonara. Unfortunately I didn’t get any pictures but it was good.
I decided to try the Nutella S’mores cake for dessert. By the way what on earth is the broiled pea dessert?
I’m sure we weren’t up too late tonight since we had an early port the next morning in Grand Turk.
Tonight’s towel animal is a lovely frog.
