Back from Vacation…Mostly

magens_bay

In case you were wondering why I hadn’t published anything for a while it’s because my husband and I were on a nine day vacation.  We took a cruise with my sisters, their husbands and my brother returning home Sunday evening.

That gorgeous picture above is of Magens Bay in St. Thomas.  It may just be the most beautiful beach I’ve ever seen.  Fortunately, we got there early so we could get this picture; by the time we left a few hours later it was wall to wall bodies.  You can click on the photo for a larger image.

Sad News to Start the Trip

We traveled a day early to Florida because it’s not possible to fly in the day of the cruise from California.  We woke to the news that my father-in-law had passed away.  He had been on hospice care for the past 16-17 months so it wasn’t a surprise but at the same time you never expect it.

My husband decided to proceed with the trip as his father had told him many times not to change our plans if anything happened.  His brother took care of the immediate details and services are later this week.

It gave my husband a chance to reflect and start his grieving process in a beautiful setting.  He was surprised by the emotions associated with being the oldest immediate family member.  I had felt the same unsettling feelings when my mother passed away.

Minor Annoyance

Of less significance but definitely annoying is that we both came back with colds.  This cold seems to settle in the upper chest and we’ve been coughing fools.  I hope this is much better by Friday when we’ll be close to so many family members.

I’ll be back to full force next week with the usual updates and posts.  My parting advice is to show your family your love every chance you get.  Life is never long enough!
