My stepson has been in Afghanistan the past few months with his unit. My husband has been counting down the days until he’d return to the United States and relative safety. Yesterday morning we received a phone call from the Army that he had been injured. The details were few except:
- they were under attack
- his hand is injured
- he will be evacuated first to Germany
- he will be sent to a US hospital for surgery
After the shock subsided somewhat we are so grateful it wasn’t another kind of Army notification. The kind other parents receive every day. I’m grateful not to hear such horrific news and a feeling a little guilty for being so.

So sorry to hear about the injury. I hope you’re able to speak with him soon.
Kay Lynn says
Thanks, Donna. My husband did speak with him yesterday and we just got a call from the Army letting us know he’s on the way to Germany. They’ve been great about communicating with us regularly.
