Weekly Chronicles: Boston Marathon Edition

KayLynn · April 21, 2013 · Leave a Comment

runforboston

Boston experienced an intense, scary and heartwarming five days and the nation watched breathlessly.  At the time I write this it’s unknown what motivated the bombers and who knows if we’ll ever know.

Sometimes I wonder what is happening in our country (largely due to the dysfunction in Congress) but then something like this happens and I realize those people are the exception.  Our land is filled with caring, generous people.  I can’t forget the people running towards the blast area to help others or those earlier finishers giving away their medals to those that couldn’t cross the finish line.

I’m not a runner but I was a marathoner.  The race will be back next year better than ever.

Around the Web

This week’s collection of reading are all articles related to the Boston Marathon bombing that I found moving or inspirational.  Unfortunately I couldn’t include them all but here are some highlights.

Frugal Beautiful wrote the first post I read about the bombing.  Her words were just right.

Don’t miss the thoughts of a 2013 Boston Marathon finisher at Weight Off My Shoulders.  I hope to meet Dani at FitBloggin’.

Fat Girl vs. World shared a moving poem in her post about the bombing.

Mom Dot shares the perspective of a Bostonian.

Fitfluential showed their support in a wonderful collage of  members wearing race t-shirts.  I’m proud to be a part of this community.

Giveaways

There are two giveaways running at Two Savvy Sisters (literally my sister site).  Today is the last day to enter the Purex Natural Elements Detergent giveaway which will have 3 winners.  Three people will win a product coupon for Dial Kids Body Wash.  Entries close April 30th.

Surviving and Thriving is giving a way a $50 gift card to the new Yoga Shop at Sports Authority.  Enter before it ends April 23rd.

Enter to win a copy of Eat and Run by Scott Jurek at Cult of Kale. Entries close May 7th if my math is right.

Skinny Meg is giving away a blinged out shirt.  Entries close in three days.

Enter for a chance to win a sparkly skirt at Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans.  This one ends April 26th.

That’s it for this edition.  Celebrate Earth Day tomorrow and have a great week!
