Today is the eighth sea day on this Voyage of the Vikings.
Sea Day Morning
I met Steve in the Crow’s nest for coffee and we went to the main dining room for breakfast when it opened at 8 am.
I had a mimosa and started with berries.
The waiter said all they have left are blueberries. Hopefully there will new supplies in Rotterdam tomorrow. You can see the daily specials card in the background.
For my main meal I had buckwheat pancakes with turkey sausage.
Steve had eggs Benedict. At 10 I went to the talk on cycling which was interesting.
It was presented by the cruise and travel director. I stayed for the first half of the whales presentation before heading to our cabin to meet Steve.
It was surprising to me to see how many types of whales could be in the seas.
Sea Day Afternoon
We headed to the pinnacle bar to meet our travel hosts and the rest of the luncheon attendees.
This luncheon is for first time customers. As a group we moved to the dining room when the staff indicatged it was ready. We were seated at two tables of 10.
Ironically the couple next to us moved from San Diego (ranch penasquitos) shortly before us last year. They live in Utah now. For lunch Steve and I had the same thing; no photos due to event.
We had a salad, followed by the french dip and then a chocolate banana cream pie. It was really chocolate cream pie with bananas in it. Everything was good except the dip part of the meal was more of a gravy than an au jus. The hosts provided wine and any other beverage people wanted.
This went a little long so I skipped afternoon presentations and hung out in the cabin. I really wanted to finish the book Lessons in Chemistry. It was very good and I highly recommend!
Sea Day Evening
At 5 pm I met Steve in the Ocean bar and we had cocktails until time for dinner.
It is our last meal with two of table mates who are only on the first half of the sailing and it’s a dressy night.
Here’s the culinary council menu.
I started with crab cake while Steve had double coconut shrimp.
My second starter was beets.
The entree I selected was the fennel crusted halibut.
I really didn’t notice the fennel but it was really good. Steve had the prime rib. He enjoyed that but not the sides that came with it. We both had the chocolate puff pastry craquelin.
It was a good meal. After dinner I went by the pinnacle grill because I noticed my two specialty restaurant reservations aren’t showing in the app. The hostess said they’ll show after Rotterdam.
Then I went by the library to turn in the book and get anew one. Last stop was the bar for a soda and glass of ice. Back in the cabin we read before bed after taking care of the wild animal on our bed.
