Looking for Your Support: The Avon Walk for Breast Cancer

Last year I was training for the Susan G. Komen Three Day walk when piriformis syndrome ended that goal.  I vowed to keep trying and walk in honor of my sister-in-law who is now in remission (yay!).

Unfortunately, the timing of this year’s walk doesn’t work with our calendar so I looked for an alternative and found it with the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer.  I’ll be walking 39.3 miles over two days in September in Santa Barbara.

What is the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer?

The Avon Walk for Breast Cancer is a national calendar of 39-mile weekend fundraising events launched in 2003 by the Avon Foundation.  The events are held in eight cities throughout the country and the series is a project of the Avon Foundation for Women.

The money raised by the Avon Foundation supports a national network of more than 200 research, medical, social service and community-based organizations annually, each of which is making a unique contribution to helping patients or advancing breast cancer research. Nearly $780 millions has been donated worldwide since 1992.

One of the fun things at a kickoff event I attended earlier this month was meeting representatives of some of the organizations that receive donations including the John Wayne Cancer Center.

Every Dollar Helps

When I registered to walk in September I committed to raising at least $1,800.  As you can see in the graphic above I’m over halfway there.  I could use your support in reaching (and exceeding my goal).

We’re not just working towards a cure in the future but also to support women and men in need now.  Money that helps them get meals during treatment and those without the means pay for mammograms, tests and surgery.

No amount is too small, so if you would like to help me fight breast cancer, click the image or HERE to donate.  I thank you and the unknown recipients thank you!
