Thanksgiving 2015: Staying Home

KayLynn · November 23, 2015 · 4 Comments

This year we’re trying something different — staying home!  We have a small group joining us and I’m cooking. It’s quite a change from last year’s fiasco.

We planned a trip to Key West for the weekend to check it off my husband’s bucket list. Unfortunately I had started getting sick with a cold that week but was in denial thinking it was allergies.

By Thanksgiving morning I was very congested including my ears.  During the first flight my right ear was so painful I was ready to cry and then… my eardrum burst.  It relieved the pain but  not the way you want to.

When we got to Miami and picked up the rental car we decided to find someplace to eat after checking in the hotel.  Our hotel was far enough out of Miami that we couldn’t find a restaurant open for Thanksgiving.

To add insult to injury our meal ended up being turkey sandwiches bought at a Target cafe that was open for black Friday shopping.

Fortunately, the trip got better the next few days and I was on the path to wellness after a trip to Key West urgent care. So no matter what happens with the meal, it can’t be worse than Thanksgiving 2014.

What is your worst Thanksgiving memory?

OH NO! Turkey sandwich from Target. It’s like you really wanted to get a jump on that Christmas shopping! You didn’t even wait until Black Friday to get to Target. It does stick to be sick during vacation. I very much dislike visiting doctors other than my own. I had to do that in Chicago last year – no fun. The ear bursting thing sounds horrible. Here’s to a wonderfully beautiful Thanksgiving to you and yours tomorrow!!

Hi Diane, not only did I dislike seeing another doctor but because I’m in a HMO it was all out of pocket. I know this year will be better.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours and thank you so much for stopping by.

Oh, that’s pretty dismal! My first year of law school my first exam was right after TG weekend. I remember barely coming out of the bed room long enough to eat.

Coco, don’t you wonder about professors that schedule like that? Happy Thanksgiving!
