Setting 2019 Goals for Health, Wealth and Travel

KayLynn · January 3, 2019 · Leave a Comment

Every year I set goals for 2019 in three categories; not coincidentally the same three, Health, Wealth and Travel, mentioned in this blog title.  Last year’s goals were for the most part met so I’m feeling good about selecting these new 2019 goals.

Health

Weight Loss – Yes this is on my goals list again (as in every year for the past umpteen years).  I want to build upon my 25 pounds gone in 2018 with another 30 in 2019.  I plan to have 10 pounds gone by the end of the first quarter.

Medication – This is about getting off my blood pressure medication.  If I get my weight low enough I should be able to remove this from my daily regimen leaving me one remaining prescription treating hypothyroid.

Strength training – We lose muscle as we age and it’s important  to try to fight that tendency.  I’m going to incorporate strength training into my health plan now.  I’m focusing on functional, body weight exercises that I can do anywhere (since I’m in a hotel a lot).  My goal is 2 times a week minimum.  I’ve made myself a playlist on YouTube of routines.

Wealth

Debt – The unexpected pet bills this year along with expensive airfare for our Thanksgiving cruise (x4) meant my credit card bill has crept up to an uncomfortable level.  My goal is to get back to zero balance this year.

Since it’s our only debt it shouldn’t be too difficult but will require me put a governor on spending.  No more buying myself what I want when I want.  Budgeting has worked in the past and I’ve already created this months.

Wills – Losing our daughter last year taught us we may not have as much time left here as we think.  For that reason, it’s time to buckle down and finally get wills done.  It will be my second financial priority in 2019.

Home Maintenance – There’s a couple of projects I’d like to get done this year in our living/dining room.  First, we’ll get the ceiling repaired by our HOA now that they’ve fixed the roof leak but then it’ll need repainting.  I’ll go ahead and repaint the entire room as I’m tired of the green walls.

Secondly our 10 year guarantee carpet is now 11 plus years old and showing it; our pets didn’t help!  I want to get it replaced; possibly with hard wood flooring.  These will be second half of the year projects.

Travel

Family Trips  – I hope to see a lot of family at my son’s wedding this summer so no travel for me!  Before the wedding we will take a trip another son and his family (including the newest grandchild).  I’ll be scheduling a trip to Memphis sometime during the year to see another grandson.

Lastly I’m vacationing with one of my sisters in November for a bucket list trip and will visit several new European ports on a Transatlantic cruise.

KetoCon – I bought myself a ticket to KetoCon last year when they were quite cheap.  The real expense will be the hotel as I booked flights with miles.  However, it will be a great opportunity to learn more about Keto, meet my favorite keto experts and have fun in Austin.  I’m really looking forward to spending time in the Expo hall too where I can try new to me products without a big monetary commitment.

Milestone Trip Planning – Next year my husband hits a birthday with a zero and we will have our 25th wedding anniversary.  We want to take an extra special vacation to celebrate these two events.  This year we’ll select the vacation and start making plans to take it debt-free.

Last year I wrote that there will be unexpected events and boy did we have a lot.  I’m hoping none in 2019 are as life changing as losing a loved one but things that don’t matter in the big scheme like our broken air conditioner.

What are you 2019 plans?
