Physical Therapy Treatment for Piriformis Syndrome

KayLynn · August 26, 2012 · 1 Comment

Physical therapy for the pain in my butt (otherwise known as piriformis syndrome) started last week.  I’ve only had one treatment session and don’t see a difference yet but hopefully in a couple of weeks I’ll be singing another tune.

 Treatment Sessions

The first session was just an evaluation and she showed me exercises to do at home.  The second session we actually did exercises that I can’t do at home because of the equipment.  She also massaged the area a little and then finished the session with an ice pack.

I was actually in a little more pain than usual the day after but maybe that’s a good sign.  We’re making the muscles work and they reacted?

 At Home Work

I’m not very good about consistently doing the stretches at home.  It’s hard to take the time to spend 20 minutes stretching.   What is funny is that whenever I get down on the floor, the dog or cat come right over to see what has compelled me to be down on their level.

I did have another massage yesterday and the therapist said I was able to tolerate a lot more pressure than two weeks ago.  So, maybe there is improvement that I’m just not feeling yet.

Another change I’ve made is installing a program on my work computer that pops up a reminder every 45 minutes to get up.  I stand and move around a bit and that has seemed to help me make it through the day without the nerve complaining.

Tomorrow morning at the crack of dawn (really 6 am) I’ll be back at therapy hoping that it will be the session that turns the tide.  How have you dealt with an injury setback?
