Oasis of the Seas: Cococay

KayLynn · April 8, 2022 · Leave a Comment

Today is billed as Perfect Day at CocoCay. I hope so. I’ll discovered the stateroom is not as well insulated as I’d like. I can hear my neighbors when they close the cabin door and cabinet doors in their stateroom. I don’t know what time the central park music stops but I feel asleep to it last night.

CocoCay Morning

Around 6 I was up and figured out the only place to get coffee before 7 is Café Promenade or Starbucks. Café Promenade it is. The coffee was actually quite good and I enjoyed a couple of cups while journaling and chatting with a nice lady I met in line yesterday.

I decided to go to main dining room for breakfast. It opened at 7:30 am.  There wasn’t any social distancing between tables on the vaccinated deck.

I had a fruit cup to start.

If you’re really hungry you’ll need two orders of the breakfast burrito but it was good.

Then I went to the cabin and got ready to go ashore.

First view of CocoCay from the ship

This is the first ship I had to tap my keycard on the RFID reader to get on and off. The gangway is on deck 2.

The tram stop is right along the ship once off. I waited just a couple of minutes for a seat and off we went to the other side of the pier. Once there the tram to other parts of the island was across the road. There was one indication it is December.

I got off at South Beach which is the first stop. Even at 9:30, I could find front row loungers.

This was a nice calm beach. The water was a little cool but once you got in, it was fine. I loved it.

I hung out in the water for quite a while chatting with some nice ladies. This beach has a snack shack, basketball court, and other sports things. There’s also a towel hut, bar and mat rental. The floating bar was very popular and packed by noon.

CocoCay Afternoon

I got lunch around that time at the snack shack and there was just one person ahead in each line.

Before I finished eating the line was 8 people deep.  I went with the shack chicken sandwich and fries.

It was very tasty and the sandwich reminded me of Chick Fil a. Then took the tram over to the pool to see it.

The pool is the biggest I’ve ever see anywhere. But it was SOOO cold. I couldn’t stay in it. Between the cold water and an annoying DJ I wasn’t enjoying it here so left after half an hour or so.

I did like the zero entry area and having stairs instead of ladders to get in elsewhere.  Also the chairs are on sand instead of pavers or concrete which is nice.

I walked over to the skipper’s grill from there and had a chocolate ice cream cone for dessert. Chill beach looked crowded so I think I made the right choice and would go to south beach next time I’m here.

A view of the ship from CocoCay

I walked to the tram and took it back to the ship. By this time it was after 2 pm and I relaxed in the cabin until the captain blew the all aboard whistle which was found in central park.

It wasn’t long after that they started calling names in the public areas only. Then they called this one couple’s names in the cabins 3 separate times. How can you be late from a private island?

CocoCay Evening

After changing for the evening, I went to the shops and bought two lanyards. My dressy one I got many years ago had lost too many crystals and also got a plain one for the daytime.  Then it was off to the schooner bar for a grapefruit and habanero daiquiri.

Tonight I have reservations at Chops Grille. Hoping it is better than my last experience. Unfortunately, it was sprinkling and very windy outside so couldn’t take advantage of outdoor dining.

Chops Grille Dinner

The restaurant is very cozy though and I was welcomed and seated quickly. Patrick was my waiter.

I started with the pink grapefruit sparkle.

It was okay but sweeter than I liked. The onion and pretzel breads came with regular butter and anchovy butter.

No thanks to the second one! I enjoyed both breads with my appetizers.  I started with crab cake which was delicious.

This was followed by the crispy goat cheese salad.

My entrée was the 9 ounce filet mignon cooked medium.

It was a touch over which was okay but I found the steak to be flavorless. This is the same problem I experienced on the Empress of the Seas.

The side of mashed potatoes were fantastic!

I also enjoyed the warm chocolate cake.

All in all, I would eat here again and order the branzino instead of beef.

Entertainment

After killing time in my cabin, I headed to Studio B for Frozen in Time ice show.

It was very good and great costumes although not a fan of the theme. The sand artist was amazing.

I quickly made reservations for the 9:30 pm headliner show since I missed it the night before. David Lucas is a comedian, juggler. No doubt he is talented but the show seems dated.

Then I swung by the promenade to the freestyle machine there to fill my cup with diet ginger ale before heading to the cabin where I found a frog.

The ship was rocking and rolling tonight so I especially appreciated both shows that did amazing under those circumstances.
