Norwegian Epic Transatlantic: Sea Day 2

KayLynn · March 2, 2020 · Leave a Comment

It’s our second sea day.  We gained an hour so it was light outside when going to to breakfast in the Taste dining room.

The sea was a bit rough today as you can tell by the pool action.

Morning at Sea

I ordered a latte and a Bloody Mary to drink.

This was my first bloody mary but it wasn’t my last!

Food wise, I started with the bran muffin from the bread basket.

Also had the baked beans with poached egg special.

It was not as good as I remembered but I ate every bite!  Sister T. Had cream of wheat today.

When we left I bought transfers from the ship to the airport in San Juan for both of us. After reading in the busy library for a while, I went to a Burn the Floor Q&A in the atrium that was interesting.

At 11:45 I met up with our group organizer (for our booking we joined a group for better perks) and got 41 euros cash that was a group perk.  This is on top of free gratuities and free drink package.

Afternoon at Sea

Instead of joining the group for lunch I went to Taste solo.

My table had a view of the waves.

I had the atlantic chowder to start.

It was okay. This was followed by the calamari.

Although not as crispy as I would prefer it was very good.

My entree was the shrimp in pesto sauce.

Couldn’t eat it all but did manage to enjoy all my dessert! It was the creme caramel.

Always beautiful and tasty.

My next activity was the 2 pm talk for our next three ports.

Janis was a good speaker and I’m sorry to have missed her other talks (especially the one on the Beatles later in the cruise).

It was a good presentation and I hope to get dropped in town tomorrow after the tour to have an egg custard!

My next stop was the atrium where the next cruise staff talked about the Panama Canal trips.  Then it was time to get ready for dinner.

But before that, we had to go to our usual spot, Shakers, for cocktails.

This was the lavendar patch with those tasty snacks. We then headed to Cagney’s Steakhouse for dinner.

Our reservation was for 6 pm and after we checked in we were seated at a table for two directly overlooking the manhattan room.

The big treat is we got to see a 25 minute performance by the Burn the Floor dancers (4 couples).

It was quite entertaining and such an unexpected highlight of our dinner.

We both ordered mojitos for drinks.

Bread and butter had been delivered.

I started with the shrimp cocktail (the regular one).

Sister T. had the bacon which was disappointing.

I recall it being thicker two years ago ( like pork belly).  Next I had the lobster bisque.

Sister T. had wedge salad.

We both enjoyed this course.

Then came the main event, ribeye steaks for both of us.

We both ordered ribeye steaks. Mine was perfect but Sister T.’s was tough and didn’t have the marbling mine did. For sides I went with the potatoes au gratin (fantastic) and creamed corn (very bland).

Sister T. Had mushrooms and truffle mashed potatoes that she enjoyed.

When the maitr’d came by Sister T. let her know about the steak. She offered to replace it but since we had nearly finished our meal Sister T. didn’t accept.  We were also offered free after dinner drinks but declined since we have the drink package.  She asked for our cabin number and said she’s send something to our cabin. I’ll let you know if we get something.

We completed our meal with decaf coffee (me), raspberry creme brulee (Sister T.)…

and apple crisp for me.

Before leaving I signed for our bill.

I didn’t do much the rest of the evening other than read and watch Mad Men on my iPad. We have an excursion tomorrow morning.
