Sister T and I purchased a 5 night specialty dining package before our cruise and made reservations online for five different venues. Tonight we experience the french cuisine venue named Le Bistro.
We had 6:30 pm reservations upon arrival was greeted at the entrance by the maitre’d.. Le Bistro is on deck 5 in a quiet spot on the ship by the art gallery. It has a nice waiting area that we didn’t need today.
When checking in we were asked if we wanted a black napkin. This was something I’d never been offered and asked why. The hostess explained some people wearing dark clothing want a dark napkin. We declined and went with the default white already at the table.
The restaurant was still pretty empty but it was early and we were still in port.
We started our evening with glasses of prosecco.
Then we ordered.
Good thing we didn’t need to worry about prices!
Both of us ended up with crab salad starter (although Sister T had ordered the warm Brie salad the server somehow got it wrong).
She decided to keep it and loved it as much as I did. That little bit of lettuce is filled with the most delicious blue crab. This was followed by soups. The most amazing mushroom soup I was told.
Mine was a good but not great french onion soup.
I had switched to red wine for dinner and ordered the Tempranillo I heard about from others on board. Very nice!
Next came our entrees. Sister T ordered the grilled prawns.
She raved about them. I dipped a piece of bread in the sauce and have to agree; wonderful! I had a beautiful filet (sorry for the out of focus photo) that was cooked perfectly and so tender.
Loved it! The side veggies were good; not special but unfortunately the sliced potatoes under the steak were a little underdone. The potatoes in my sis’s dish were perfect according to her. 🙂
Then came dessert.
The server recommended the profiteroles or the creme brulee and I should have listened. Sister T did and loved her creme brulee.
My napoleon was too rich to eat much of it.
Good but just too much sweetness. I had ordered decaf coffee and wanted to drink the entire pot.
It was perfect! I signed for our bill.
We left Le Bistro both full and highly satisfied with our wonderful evening.
