Fitbloggin’ 2013: Saturday Sessions, Parties and Food

KayLynn · July 24, 2013 · 2 Comments

Fitbloggin_Saturday_agenda

The conference schedule started at 6 am for the second day in a row and it was a little harder to get going.  All three of us in the room wanted to get to the Yoga with SweatPink! though.

The fact that SweatPink was sponsoring the class should have prepared me but the pace of this “yoga” class was not what I was expecting or wanting.  I gave up after 5 minutes and went to have coffee while waiting for breakfast.

fitblogginwwmeetup

There was a mini-Weight Watchers meetup at breakfast. It was nice to connect with other bloggers following the plan!  I just noticed I have my palms facing the wrong way.

Jumpsport Fitness

Jumpsport Fitness Trampoline Bounce Class

This class was wildly popular at last year’s Fitbloggin’ so I really wanted to see what all the fuss was about.  Okay, I also wanted to bounce up and down on the mini trampolines. 🙂

Jeff McMullen was super energetic, positive and entertaining all at the same time.  My roommate Kari and I shared a trampoline and each partner alternated bouts of a trampoline exercise with a floor based, body weight exercise.  I think it was about 1 minute per exercise and 30 seconds in between changing positions.

I was drenched in sweat when we were done and had over 6,000 steps on my Fitbit!  It was a great workout and the one I enjoyed the most all weekend.

Flash Mob – Fitbloggin’ Style

fitbloggin_flash_mob

I saw my first flash mob during the morning break.  Thirty to forty attendees had worked on a routine in secret surprising and delighting everyone who saw it.  Here’s a video of the dance from Allan at Sweating Until Happy.

Stop Keeping up with Joneses Discussion

This session was facilitated by Liz Paul from A Prior Fat Girl. We discussed comparing ourselves to others and not feeling like enough. It really reinforced the mantra from Patricia’s cardio session the day before.  There were tears but so much support and yes, lots of hugs!

You can read the live blog HERE for more details.

 Open Lunch

Lunch was not hosted and there was a group walk to the Portland food carts.  Nothing spoke to me so I joined Dacia from Run, Ride, Repeat and Erika from Bein’ E-Rizzy for a walk to The Veggie Grill. Yes this is the third time I’ve blogged about eating Veggie Grill and it’s always good!

veggie_steak_tacos

I had the veggie steak tacos which came with a little salad. Very tasty and excellent company!

Get Down to Business: Video SEO

This session was presented by Lisa Johnson at Lisa Johnson Fitness.  She knows her stuff about videos as youcan tell if you clicked on the link to her Youtube channel.

Here’s just one of the key takeaways from her presentation:

Use your keyword….
1. In the NAME of the video file
2. In the TITLE of your video on YouTube
3. In the DESCRIPTION area of the video
4. EMBED the video on your blog!
You might see video blogging as one of my goals for next year.

Get Down to Business: Google Analytics: Moving Beyond Page Views

Tim Woodbury from Mid Pack Runner presented this session.  He was a wealth of information as i thought I knew Google Analytics already.  Tim showed us reports I’d never seen.

I also learned about Link Builder which is something I want to put to use.

Google analytics can’t tell you:
        1. exactly how many visitors you’ve had
        2. exactly which percentage of visitors are new/returning
        3. How long visitors tell on your site
Google Analytics can tell you:
        1. If your traffic is increasing over time (and by what percent)
        2. What paths your visitors take through your site
        3. How your visitors are finding you

Evening Activities

I joined these lovely ladies (Sarah,Erin, Kari, Stephanie, Emily and me) for what we hoped for be a quick dinner at the Red Star Tavern. Service was very slow and we ended up paying at the front desk because our waiter was busy chatting at other tables.

Good thing too because not long after we got to the Good-bye Reception the drawing was held for the iPad Mini giveaway from Nutrilite.  Sarah won!  After we got done screaming, it was time to check out the party food and drinks all sponsored by Nutrilite.  They brought in celebrity chef Jason Roberts who is the spokesperson for BodyKey.

In addition to fabulous appetizers, there were two smoothies being served.  I lost the recipes 🙁 but know I didn’t care for the green one but loved the chocolate one!

There was a dance-off for the fitbit giveaway and three fine dancers won them as judged by Chef Jason. He then joined all of us in dancing. I tore away to get bed because there a bit more to come on Sunday…
