Empress of the Seas: Costa Maya

KayLynn · May 8, 2020 · Leave a Comment

I was up early since I went to bed so early last night. I went up to deck 10 and got coffee and soon was joined day Sister M and then not long after Sister T.

We decided to eat in the main dining room at 7:30 and met up there. We all enjoy the combination of buffet and menu. The service was great and the server even remembered I liked extra cream cheese with my bagel.

Costa Maya Port

We left the ship at 9 am and took advantage of the trolley down the pier.  Sister M and I posed for a couple of port photos.

The trolley saved a good bit of walking but to get out to the shuttles to town, we had to walk quite aways passing every store (it seemed).  The view from the pier to the right was undeveloped and beautiful.

The shuttles are $4 a person each way now. We got in the shuttle and then asked if it stopped by Krazy Lobster, he said to take the next one so we got off and did that. Only had to wait about 5-10 minutes.  When we got to the stop, we were greeted by Miguel from Krazy Lobster and he walked us to the restaurant where we found a table and loungers.

We got our free margaritas (very small cup but delicious) and they brought menus.

I decided to go get a massage before I started drinking and had the best $20 hour long massage. Then enjoyed a BIG margarita for $7 afterwards.

I also ordered the lobster plate for $20.

It was delicious.  My brother-in-law ordered the $10 bucket of beer.  Just know these are smaller bottles but still a good deal!

I took the opportunity to get my picture taken with a very pretty iguana.

It was for tips and I gave him a $5.

We then had a second margarita which I ordered with guacamole ($5).

We had a heck of a time getting the waiter, Jose, to bring the bill. My brother in law talked to the owner and it still didn’t quickly arrive.

While waiting for the bill to come I ran to the bathroom.  Of course the waiter showed up then so my sister paid for me.  I was overcharged by $5 but since I wasn’t there to correct it cie la vie.

Sister T and her group had gone ahead to visit the pool at the port so Sister M and I took a taxi alone when we finished our drinks.  This view of our ship in front of Norwegian Escape was a welcome sight.

Back Onboard

After taking a nap I tried to move our dinner reservations but wasn’t able to because of the size of our group until 8 pm or later. I explained that we were hoping my sister’s grandson would be released from quarantine today and his appt wasn’t until 6:30. She said to just show up and they’d fit us in when a large table opened up.

Fortunately the news was good and E. was released from quarantine. All seven of us happily made it to the dining room and they had held our table for us. Win-win!

The menu was really good tonight.  I started with the cheese plate that was waiting for us every night.

My starter from the menu was shrimp cocktail.

I went with the turkey dinner as is while my nephew swapped out the sweet potato mash with regular mash.

Dessert was a banana bread pudding with coffee ice cream. Unusual.

After dinner I went to the Michelle Marlin show in the Royal Theater. She put on a good show. Her husband is Mark Preston formerly of the Letterman and she had leading roles in more than one broadway show.  Then it was off to bed for me.
