China: Howard Johnson Pearl Plaza Wuhan

KayLynn · January 24, 2017 · Leave a Comment

When I saw the itinerary included a Howard Johnson, my expectations were low.  In some ways, the Howard Johnson Pearl Plaza Wuhan was the best hotel of the bunch and I would stay here again without hesitation.

Exterior of hotel

We got here late and just stayed one night so I didn’t get to explore the facilities or immediate area.

View from room

Room

I had a standard double room.  Notice the valet stand next to the chair.

Unfortunately, the shower head was not as nice as we had at other hotels and it wasn’t a separate stall.

I didn’t get a picture of the coffee setup, but the room had a kettle along with coffee packets and tea bags.  There were also nice cushiony slippers.

We had one amenity not see at other hotels which were a set of embroidered coasters.  They were very beautiful and I wasn’t the only one to ask the guide in the morning if they were ours to keep.

Breakfast Buffet

The breakfast buffet at the Howard Johnson Pearl Plaza Wuhan was the best one I experienced in China.

The buffet was huge so big the fresh fruit and yogurt tables were outside the restaurant door.  There was also a coffee and tea station there for people that just wanted to grab a hot drink to go.

The buffet in the restaurant had so many stations: juices (including pear and watermelon), bread station with pastries as well as a variety of breads, hot food trays including 3 types of sausage (beef, chicken and pork), eggs, noodle station with three types of noodles and even an omelette station.

I was surprised to see a Christmas display set up in the middle of the buffet.  It’s different with a car track around it and pumpkins underneath.

All the food I had was delicious and well prepared.  No need to drink coffee out of cereal bowls here!

Final Thoughts

The one issue I had with this hotel had to do with elevators.  For some reason, there were long waits for the elevator returning from breakfast and when trying to go down to the lobby.  Some people went up to go down!

Checkout consisted of confirming there were no room charges and dropping off the key.
