It’s our first sea day and I was up at 5:30 and headed out looking for coffee shortly after. I found it on the Lido but sadly had forgotten how awful this coffee is since my last Carnival cruise in 2017. Or maybe I was hoping it got better?
Morning at Sea
For better coffee I had to wait until the Java Bar opened up. Fortunately Java Joe opened up a bit early and my addiction was fed…along with a cheese danish.
The coffee was excellent but the danish wasn’t worth the calories. It might have been better warmed up. Later, I checked in for sea day brunch on the app. I loved this feature!
When arriving at the dining room, I told them my table and was escorted there. This was a great table just one away from the aft windows. The view was great!
I pulled up the menu using the QR code on the table.
Along with more coffee I ordered tomato juice and the parfait to start.
It was good but had too many nuts (who knew that was possible!). I also got the frittata and an english muffin.
Next time I will order potatoes as the fingerling potatoes aren’t on the side but rather in the frittata. This was pretty good.
I then came back to my cabin to get ready for the pool. Once there I easily found a front row lounger at the tides pool.
It never filled up which was really enjoyable. Talked to one couple and we figured out we did the 10 day journeys cruise together in 2014.
Had to leave after a couple of hours when I started getting a burn on my arm and back. It’s so hard to do sunscreen alone although one lady kindly offered to spray my back.
Afternoon at Sea
After cleaning up, I headed to Pasta Bella for lunch.
My table had a nice view.
My starters were caesar salad and focaccia bread.
Salad was very good while the break was just okay. Next came the lasagna.
This was pretty good. Interestingly there isn’t dessert on the menu for lunch so I headed to the Lido buffet. I found an excellent slice of german chocolate cake.
This was followed by gelato (forgot the flavor).
During the entire cruise, I only had cake and gelato at the Lido buffet. Excellent!
It was nap time followed by the movie, Hope Gap, starring Annette Benning, Bill Nighy and Josh O’Connor. It was another downer movie. I can see why I hadn’t heard of it before although the acting was well done.
Evening at Sea
After changing for elegant night, I went to the casino cashier and had the $25 free play added to my account. I then played (lost) $10 before cashing out and going to the Alchemy bar for a drink. Had the basil drop today and made it to the dining room about 5 minutes late.
Tonight we had six at the table and had a much better experience.
I started with the blackened pork tart.
I also had the cream of mushroom bisque which tasted strangely sweet to me. For entrée I had ordered the prime rib with a side of lobster.
The prime rib had a bit of gristle and was just okay and the lobster was equally disappointing. It was a good thing the chocolate melting cake was good.
I just wasn’t able to finish it because it’s so rich. Then it was off to the liquid lounge for tonight’s show, Flick. I found a front row seat on the second level and enjoyed the show very much.
In my cabin I found this pig.
I thought about the comedy club but was worn out from the walking (over 9000 steps today). My bum knee was giving me feedback.
