Weekly Tales: More Pet Woes Edition

KayLynn · October 28, 2018 · Leave a Comment

Saturday before last we took Charger, our soon to be 12 year old basset hound, to the vet because he had another cyst pop up.  He has a history of these although it’s been about two years since his last one was surgically removed.

Plans were made to remove it this past Friday and he had pre-op blood work as well as x-rays due to his age.  The vet called us a few days later to let us know his liver enzymes were elevated and his liver was enlarged on the film.  Needless to say, surgery is cancelled for now while we figure out what this means.  He has an ultrasound next week with a specialist.

Meanwhile we’re still infusing Buster every other day with Ringer’s lactate.  The thyroid medication stalled the weight loss and he’s even gained a bit back so at least he’s stable for now.

Highlights

Last Sunday we saw A Star is Born.  It was far better than the last remake.  I think Bradley Cooper deserves an Oscar for his performance and Lady Gaga was also very good; but not sure it’s oscar worthy.

This week I traveled three days going to Louisiana and back.  It was the first time I had to drive across the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway.  I may have mentioned before I have a thing about driving over bridges and the longest continuous bridge in the world was not fun.

Good thing the business trip part was productive!  I got home Friday and slept for 10 hours straight.

Lastly, I wanted to note that today would have been my mom’s 80th birthday.  I’ve learned you never stop missing your mother but get to an acceptance and can celebrate her life.

Favorite Reads

Here are a few of my favorite reads this week.

Deserting Debt says work life balance is a lie.  I agree that that there’s no magic balance of the two and it seems to me people work harder and longer now than earlier in my professional life.  Do you think it exists?

I’ve been taking medication for Hashimoto’s for 8 years and until I read about Thyroid health in The Fine Line had no idea it was related to leaky gut.  Don’t miss this excellent article!

The Points Guy shares the five rules  you might  breaking with talking to your seatmate.  I usually get my headphones on before we even take off so it ‘s not an option to talk to me. 🙂

I’m making a soup with pumpkin puree this week so the leftover pumpkin will go to great use in this mini-pumpkin pie recipe from My Life Cookbook. It’s low carb and takes one minute in the microwave to cook.

Looking Ahead

I’m home all week and have a couple of things planned.  We’re going to see Venom at the theaters tomorrow.  Then I’ll go to the office Wednesday for Halloween festivities (and of course some work will get done  😆 ).   Then Thursday night is book club.  Hope it’s a great week for you too!
