Voyage of the Vikings: Sea Day 7

KayLynn · August 5, 2024 · Leave a Comment

Our seventh sea day on the Zuiderdam started with coffee in the Crow’s Nest.  I bought another mug since Steve had been enjoying the one I had bought earlier on the trip. It really keeps the drinks warm.

Sea Day Morning

We went to the dining room at 8 am and were seated at a table for two. Here are today’s breakfast specials.

I started my meal with a mimosa.

Then I had berries.

The strawberries were half frozen; out of fresh ones I guess.  For the main, I had the breakfast burrito special.

It was much smaller than I expected and so good I immediately ordered another burrito only.

On the way back to our cabin I stopped at the library and got a book, Lessons in Chemistry, that was recommended to me by two different friends.

I left in time to make the 10 am ask the Captain session.

He was funny, charming and everyone applauded when he asked people to not use this forum for complaints. This was after one man asked why the itinerary stop for Bergen was canceled (the captain doesn’t make the schedule) and how disappointing it was for him and his family, blah, blah blah and a second man complained there weren’t shuttles in the port. For god’s sake, we docked right in the town in nearly every port.

I stayed for the 11 am talk on Lerwick.

Happily they actually gave port information today.

Doesn’t the town hall in the slide below look like a church?

It even has stained glass windows. In case you were wondering what Vikings have to do with Scotland….

Sea Day Afternoon

Steve skipped lunch so I went to brunch solo in the main dining room.

I was at a sharing table with my dinner mates, Bob and Dale, and another couple who are from Kansas.  I started with a grapefruit martini.

It was delicious! I had the burrata salad.

It was good but I was expecting more lettuce.  My entree was the Sunday prime rib roast.

Everything was great except the popover was soso. My dessert was the apple crumble.

Service was very slow throughout the entire meal but the event (brunch) seemed very popular.  In fact it took so long I had to miss the 1 pm talk on shipwrecks I was planning to attend.

Instead I went to the cabin and took a 2 plus hour nap (boy did I pay for it this evening).

Sea Day Evening

We started our evening with a cocktail in the Ocean Bar.

The live music is off tonight. It was Steve’s first dinner back in the dining room since July 31st so he was roundly welcomed.

We both started with the tomato soup.

Very good! I next had the ham croquette which was just okay.

Steve had the salad.  My entree was the rustic lasagna.

One bite in I didn’t like it but gave it another bite. Nope, returned it and ordered the salmon.

Much better!  Steve had the short rib. I had fruit and strawberry sorbet for dessert.

There was a new comedian tonight but I wasn’t feeling it so just went back to the cabin and got ready for tomorrow’s early morning.

We got entertainment schedule for the next two weeks.

There was also an invitation for the second cruise specialists cocktail party on the 9th at 4 pm in the Gallery bar.

We’re having our rockiest evening but it’s not that bad. I read until time for bed.  Below is today’s daily program.  Click the image for the full PDF.
