Voyage of the Vikings: Sea Day 1

KayLynn · June 18, 2024 · Leave a Comment

Today the Zuiderdam is at sea. It will be busy though as there’s a full schedule plus private events we’re invited too.

Sea Day Morning

We woke at 6, quickly headed to the Crow’s Nest, and got two specialty coffees. I catch up on notes while enjoying my latte but we can’t see a thing due to fog.

The ship’s horn is sounding regularly to warn any vessels out there. We went to breakfast in the main dining room when it opened.

These are today’s specials.

I got an old favorite, banana bread french toast.

It was good but the slice is thinner and not as good. I also don’t like the compote on top.  Also had a croissant to start.

Steve had French toast plus eggs. We had good service. At 9:45 I headed to the Crow’s Nest where the cruise critic meet and greet starts at 10:30. I volunteered to help at the registration desk.

When I got there they didn’t need me; not enough room so I just sat and talked to new friends. It was a fun gathering with cute ice breakers and awards.

Then I went to the cabin to get Steve and we headed to the Cruise Specialists cocktail party.

This is our first time booking a sailing through them. We had open bar with passed hot appetizers.  We met our voyage hosts, Steve and Wendy. They’ll have a desk set up every sea day 9-11 am in case people need help or to chat.

Sea Day Afternoon

We went to lunch at the Lido directly after and had difficulty finding a table. We got pre-made sandwiches and had salads made. I also tried the shrimp and corn soup. Dessert for both of us was ice cream.

I had plans to attend a couple of presentations this afternoon but napping won out.  I also missed tea.

Since Steve was not invited to the 3 star and up cocktail party, I skipped it.

I can get cocktails anytime with my card.

Sea Day Evening

We decided to go to dinner early. It’s gala night so once we were dressed we had a pre-dinner cocktail in the Ocean Bar.

When we got in line it was longer than usual and we were the first ones to get a pager. After a 25 minute wait, we were paged and taken to the upstairs dining room.

We both started with the crab and shrimp cocktail.

I then had the tomato soup.

For entree, I had the filet mignon.

Steve had the strip streak.

We were both happy with our dinners. Dessert was the ginger chocolate cake for me and strawberry shortcake for Steve.

I then headed to the show room and was handed a glass of champagne as I entered. The captain was introduced and then he introduced some of his officers.

Then the show, Elliot Finkel, started.

He played for 45 minutes. He is an excellent pianist and I appreciated it was not classical music.

Back n the cabin we read a bit before going to bed. We had a towel animal!

Plus our laundry came back.  Below is today’s program.  Click the image for the full program.
