Update: Health, Wealth and Travel

KayLynn · March 6, 2023 · Leave a Comment

Blog subscribers probably were surprised to start getting Health, Wealth and Travel posts after a long pause.  It turned out to be an eight month absence and a lot has happened!

Let’s break it down in the three categories in this blog’s title — health, wealth and travel.

Health

Our normal great health had a few turns in 2022.  Steve had a knee replacement in May.  Of course this involved physical therapy and a long recovery.  In fact, it is finally now feeling normal although he still has stiffness.

Steve got COVID first in July and I quickly caught it after him. We both took Paxlovid within 5 days of symptoms onset.  Thanks to this and our vaccines we had very mild cases although I had a rebound.

Then while packing for a move, he got a hernia that required an ER visit for reduction.  Unfortunately the PCR test was still showing positive so he couldn’t get scheduled for surgery for another month.

That wait turned out to be longer than that because we moved across country before that 30 days was up!  It did eventually happen this past fall in Daytona Beach.

The double hernia repair went well.

Wealth

Selling a buying homes qualify for this category, right?  After investing about $10,000 in the home to replace carpet, paint and do some repairs we listed our San Diego condo in May. We accepted an offer we got from open house the first day on the market.  Fortunately, we were able to get two months rentback and didn’t have to leave San Diego until mid-August.

Thankfully the profit helped finance three and a half months in a Florida Airbnb (on the beach) followed by two weeks in a hotel.

We didn’t plan on being in temporary housing that long but our home wasn’t done until six weeks after the end of the completion window in our contract.  Lots of delays thanks to covid shortages of labor and material.

Home in August after nearly 6 months of construction

It’s also financed the move, new home purchase, new furniture and all the stuff you need to buy with a new build (lighting fixtures, shades, etc.).

In our new home on December closing day

Of course like everyone our investments took a hit this past year thanks to whatever’s going on with the economy.  We’ve regained about half of the dip but hoping by the end of the year the balances are back to where they were in spring 2022!

Travel

While all the health and house stuff was happening some traveling did too.  In June I went on a special birthday cruise with my two sisters in late June on Allure of the Seas.

Next was another sisters cruise in late September on Harmony of the Seas.

Steve and I cruised together for the first time since the pandemic in December on the Symphony of the Seas (the day after we closed on the new home). Last but not least, I traveled to visit my grandson and his mom (otherwise known as A and C) in Memphis during January.

Recaps of these three cruises will start getting published this month after finishing the Disney Dream series.

What’s Next

We have more trips planned for this year.  I promise recaps will come a lot faster now that we’re settled.  We’re hoping for great health and of course continued growth in the wealth department for you and us.
