Tales from the Scale: A Worthy Detour

wildaniamlpark9-16-2015

It’s been two weeks since my last Tales from the Scale post and the reason is that little boy in the picture.  My grandson, who lives across country, was here for two weeks while his mom did her military reserves duty.

Besides working (only took two workdays off) I didn’t have time to think about tracking, working out and being healthy while taking care of a child whose entire diet consists of less than 15 food items.  Unfortunately, right now that means no fruits and vegetables pass his lips.

Having said that, I wouldn’t have missed spending this time with him for anything!  It was rewarding, tiring and oh so worth it.

Food Plan

My husband took my grandson home on Friday and not so coincidentally that’s the day I started tracking again. 🙂  We didn’t eat too badly but I’m sure my portions weren’t the best and where my husband and I overindulged was pastries and after dinner ice creams.  These are naturally two of things the grandson would eat.

outback

We ate dinner out once at Outback.  I selected the petite filet mignon and a sweet potato.  I don’t use that cinnamon butter they put on the potato (you can see it off to the side on my plate).  A better option would be to have the cheese and croutons removed from the salad; have to remember that next time.

Weigh-In

I weighed in Saturday morning (a day late) only because it was a little crazy Friday getting them packed up.  I had gained two pounds bringing the total weight loss back down to:

-35.0 Pounds

I hope to lose a few pounds before leaving for a cruise in November so will be working hard at better choices.

Fitness

legoland

This grandma got tired so didn’t get up to make any of her 5 am Kaia FIT classes the past two weeks.  But I was definitely more active at home than normal.  We went to the beach, to the pool at night, to San Diego Safari Park, and to Legoland.  If I was tracking I had earned activity points with the walking and swimming.

It was also a lot of fun and I wish I went to the pool more often this summer.

Challenges Ahead

This week my challenge is to track every day and get back to regular exercise.  I have a evening event Wednesday with cocktails and appetizers so that will require vigilance on my part to enjoy but not overdo.

What’s your challenge this week?

Maintaining a 35 pound weight loss is such a huge accomplishment. So glad you enjoyed your grandson!

Thank you Sharon for pointing that out. I tend to overlook that accomplishment. I’ve kept it off for about two years now.

I always struggle to get back on track after a break. And, my best tool for success is to do what you just did — declare that it’s going to happen! Good for you!

Joy, that’s what has worked for me these past few years. I know working on my health will be a long term thing and there will be deviations; just can’t let them permanently take hold.

As a grandmother of 18 (5 are great-grands), I have to say that I think you got plenty of exercise with your little guy!

Thanks, Theresa for the validation. Congratulations on being a grandma to 18! I can’t imagine how fun that must be.
