Symphony of the Seas: Costa Maya

KayLynn · April 17, 2024 · Leave a Comment

Today we will be the Symphony of the Seas’ first port call this sailing which is at Costa Maya. Arrival is 9 am so no need to rush.

We have reservations at a new to me place called Jaimie’s Blue Reef.  The experience includes all you can eat/drink, kayaks, paddle boards, wi-fi, shaded loungers and tables.

We had coffee while waiting for the main dining room to open at 8 am then was quickly seated at a table for two when we arrived.  I started my breakfast with the fresh fruit plate.

This picture was after we ate the cantaloupe and strawberry were eaten (oops).  We both ordered omelettes and v8 (which was really tomato juice).

Costa Maya Day

We got back to the cabin right when the captain was announcing the ship was cleared and we could go ashore. After finishing getting ready we headed to the gangway. There were so many people that didn’t have their sea passes ready or get towels in advance that it was a bit of an obstatcle course but wer kept moving.

Normally this pier (at least pre covid) has trams because it is a LONG one but not today coming or going.

We walked to the end and attempted to find the way out. They’re doing construction so itwasn’t as easy as last time I was here. The shop keepers are a bit aggressiveso it was a relief when we got away from them.  But I did get a photo of the ship.

The beach club said to take taxis ouside the port gate which we did but I don’t know why.  It seemed to be same price and same cab brand.  We were dropped about a block from the Blue Reef but didn’t know it because you don’t travel on the beach road anymore. No matter it was a short walk there.

Jaime’s Blue Reef

After checking in we were led to our loungers waiting with our name on it.  They were wood and even with the mat provided a bit uncomfortable. We did have a small palapa and coconut tree as shade most of the time.  This was my view once I was settled.

We got a menu and ordered our first drinks.

Steve stuck with margaritas on the rocks and I had strwberry margarita (Plus bottled water later).

They were some big glasses!  The water felt a little cold when you first entered but then quickly was comfortable. You could walk all the way out to the reef but we only walked out to the nets.

For lunch we shared some chicken nachos. Then Steve had fish tacos (and later a snack of chicken quesadilla). I had a chicken burrito.

Not the best version but tasty. The tortillas were excellent and are home made here.

The bathroom is across the street in the hotel and was clean. We went up to the top floor where there’s an infinity pool and took in the view.

This was the view directly in front of the hotel.  It’s beautiful but there’s no elevator so be prepared for stairs.

All in all we had a good time and excellent service but I would probably not go back to Jamie’s Blue Reef because of the food selection/preparation. I enjoyed my lobster at Crazy Lobster much more last time in the area.

After paying our bill we took a cab back and were on the ship at 2:15 pm and had plenty of time to clean up and have a nap before dinner.

Costa Maya Evening

We went to the diamond lounge for a pre-dinner drink (for Steve) and snacks for me.

It wasn’t too crowded but the waiters were busy getting drinks for all. We took our drinks to dinner.

Tonight’s the Italian menu — not a fan of it either.

I started with my favorite roll and a green salad.

We both ordered the strip steak.

It was tough in places but very flavorful and cooked perfectly.  The highlight was the hazelnut chocolate cake.

Wonderful! Got ice cream on the side. We were tired from getting up so early and had no reservations for entertainment tonight so went back to our cabin to read and relax before gong to sleep.

We only used two drink vouchers today each. Mine was for ginger ale to rehydrate!  Here’s today’s cruise compass.
