Symphony of the Seas: CocoCay

KayLynn · April 26, 2024 · Leave a Comment

Symphony of the Seas is docking at Royal Caribbean’s private island, CocoCay, today.  We think it’s Steve’s first visit there.

CocoCay Morning

Iwas up around 6 am and found Steve at Cafe Promenade. We had coffee there and stayed until going to breakfast at the Solarium Bistro when it opened at 7 am.

In addition to this breakfast, I had cut up watermelon and pineapple. We went out to take a look at cococay on our way back to the stateroom.

While up on top we found the minature golf course.

Too bad we never got there to play.  The weather looked promising at this point.

We went back to our cabin and got ready to leave and headed down to the gangway. Surprisingly, it wasn’t open yet but right after we got in the line, the captain announced we were cleared and it moved.

CocoCay Beach Club

I booked the beach club during the black friday sale. It was less than $100 and I saw the price listed in the app yesterday was $219 each.

Once on the island, we took the tram to the beach club. At checkin there was a line as mostof our tram got off here. One lady decided to cut the line and walked up to one of the staff as she finished someone else. Annoying!

When we checked in, we were surprised to learn reservations were needed for lunch. All that was available was 11, 11:15 or 1:30 pm and later. We took 11:15 and then found chairs.

We could have gotten one of the last beds by the pool but decided on loungers on the beach. I love the flags on the chairs to order drinks!

Steve checked out the ocean temperature and he said it was cold – that means it would be really cold to me!

He said the pool was warmer than the ocean so we did take a dip in the infinity pool. But it sure was cold when we got out. The weather had gotten windy and cloudy. It was hard to believe the air temperature was 77 as stated on my weather app.

We decided to leave after lunch because of the crappy weather.

CocoCay Beach Club Lunch

At lunch we were seated after being instructed to wash our hands.  One detail I noticed is that the soap in the dispenses here and in the restrooms was a nice quality with rosemary scent. Then we had real cloth towels to dry our hands.

Okay, back to lunch.

Our server, Charles, introduced himself and told us he’d be bringing out bento boxes of all the appetizers and then we’dneed to choose appetizer and dessert.

The shrimp and ceviche was good but it really needed some tortilla chips with it.

This box wasn’t as exciting. I think the hummus needed more flavor but I liked the babba ganoush. Wish the pitas were warm.

Steve ordered the filet mignon and it was a tad undercooked but he said it was very tasty.

I had the coconut crusted lobster sandwich.

It was smaller than I expected (based on nothing but hope I guess) but good as were the fries (even with that dang truffle oil on it).

Dessert was the caramel brownie for me and the rum cake for Steve.

His was dry but mine was perfect!

CoCoCay Afternoon

We gathered our things after finishing lunch and waited for a tram. A nice employee offered to take our picture by the wreath decoration outside the club.

We got on the tram after a few minute wait and then went directly to the ship tram once at the main station.  There was no line to board at this time and we took a nice nap.

After cleaning up we went to Schooner bar for a drink and then to the photo shop to “buy” our two compliementary photos.

Hooked Dinner

We checked in at Hooked a couple of minutes early for dinner and was seated at a table overlooking the Solarium Bistro.

Our waiter, Sunny, introduced himself, gave us the menus and took drink orders.

I had the specialty cocktail here, St. Peter’s spritzer, while Steve had the usual — Jack and Coke.

After ordering we got these garlic biscuits that were absolutely wonderful.

Very large! We both followed this with the clam and crab chowder.

It was very good but hard to find meat outside what was in the shells.  Steve had ordered the soft shell crab appetizer while I got the crab cake.

He’d never had a soft shell crab before and didn’t know to eat the legs until the waiter said that was the best part.  He saw a shrimp cocktail go by and said that’s what he will get next time. They looked like what you get at Chops.

My crab cake was very good and a little spicy.

It was thicker than you can see in this picture.  It could have used more sauce.  My entree was surf and turf.

There’s a 9 ounce filet under that tail. The filet wasn’t flavorful but the lobster was fantastic! The side I chose was the lobster mac and cheese.

Steve had the 2 pound lobster with corn on the cob as his side.

I gave Steve half my filet for some of one of his claws. Very good lobster!

The corn was so so and really needed butter.  After all that , we still had dessert.

The coconut cream pie was wonderful with plenty of coconut.

Steve’s cherry pie was served warm and he said he wouldn’t order that again. So just okay.

It took about an hour and 10 minutes for our dinner and we finished all our drink coupons there.

CoCoCay Evening

We went back to the cabin before heading to studio B at 7 pm to see iSkate 2.0.

There weren’t reservations for this show but we were able to get good seats in the center section. It was an enjoyable show and I’m amazed at what they do in that small of a rink..

Then we went back to the cabin for the night to watch TV and read before lights out.  Tomorrow we return home!

Here is today’s Cruise Compass.
