Norwegian Escape: Tortola

KayLynn · May 26, 2024 · Leave a Comment

The last time I was in Tortola was 2019 on the Epic Transatlantic with sister T. Today the Norwegian Escape brings me back.

Tortola Morning

After a restless sleep, Steve got us up at 5:45. The ship was already docked. We had a cup of coffee in the cabin while getting dressed before heading to the buffet.

While finding a table the cruise director, Will announced the ship was cleared. I wonder how early we arrived?

Steve got a ham and cheese omelette while I saved our table. I got the same thing which was pretty good. After breakfast, we went back to the cabin to finish getting ready and left at about 7:45 to find our excursion.  We are to meet on the pier at 8 am.

Cane Garden Bay Excursion

Because of the early and rather short time here, I booked a shore excursion to Cane Garden Bay. It was $49 per person but with the $50 shorex credit my ticket was free.

At the end of the pier the shore excursions were meeting and we were given a wristband and put in a line. After 20 minutes there we walked to another spot for the taxis. It was about 16 -20 people per open air taxi.

We got in the front row with Christopher as our guide and driver.

View of the Escape as we leave the port

He pointed out important buildings and gave some history as we drove up the mountain and then down to Cane Garden Bay.  Here’s a view of the port from near the top of the mountain.

There’s an incredible view of Cane Garden Bay on the other side of the mountain.

There are definitely some beautiful views! We had a little rain on the way which was a sign of what was to come.  Once at the beach, we were told to be back at the bus at 11:45. It was 9:15. We walked down the beach and rented two loungers and an umbrella for $15 and we both went in the water.

Then it rained. We got pretty wet even with the umbrella and the next one so close it was dripping all over my chair. Once it stopped people went back in again including us.

Not to much later the rain started again and never stopped! Most people went to the bars for shelter but we were one of the few who tried to wait it out.  Eventually we decided to try to board the bus. Surprisingly others were already there and many buses had loaded up and headed back. Unfortunately they left passengers and we had to take extras back making it a very tight fit in our row.

Tortola Afternoon

Once back onboard we took hot showers before heading to Osheehan’s for a late lunch. We ordered drinks and our food.  In a very short time Steve’s Cobb salad came.

It was followed by my blue cheeseburger.

After that our drinks were delivered.  There was a long wait before the “appetizers” arrived. Chicken wings for Steve.

And chili for me.

Steve had the carrot cake for dessert. He let me have some and it was pretty good.

Tortola Evening

We decided to skip the Supper Club tonight. I cancelled the reservation as soon as the box office opened at 2 pm so someone else could go.

For dinner we went to the buffet around 6:30. It was Caribbean night so not the best choices but I went with a weird selection of things.

Dessert was coconut cream pie.

We watched an old movie before going to bed.  Here is today’s Freestyle Daily.  Click the image fo the full PDF.

Here is the port information for Tortola.
