Norwegian Escape: Great Stirrup Cay

KayLynn · May 17, 2024 · Leave a Comment

Today we are visiting Great Stirrup Cay on the Norwegian Escape. We were up early after a great night’s sleep.  I was happy to have that in-room coffee before having to dress and be seen in public.

Great Stirrup Cay Morning

I  started packing the beach bag before heading up to the Garden Cafe for more coffee. At 6:30 we went to Savor Restaurant for breakfast.  Tendering information was delivered last night.

Great Stirrup Cay Breakfast

Today’s breakfast specials were avocado egg wrap or biscuits and gravy. We had more coffee and I ordered a Bloody Mary.

It was much better than the one on the Epic last month.  We had a basket of pastries which I never saw last month and reminded me of my transatlantic breakfasts.

In retrospect I probably just needed to request it.  My meal started with the fruit salad.

My entree was the wrap while Steve had his favorite ham and cheese omelette with hash browns (no photo of his).

While we were eating they announced tendering was starting and called groups 1-3. This was at 7 am! We went back to the cabin after breakfast and finished getting ready and then headed to the Escape theater.

Great Stirrup Cay Experience

At the theater entrance, they asked if we had our entire party and directed us to the side to get towels. I had picked up towels yesterday so we headed downstairs to load on the tender.

We were in chairs on the beach before 8! It looked like we were on the first tender.  I feel sorry for the people there earlier waiting for it to get full.

We headed to Infinity Beach as it was the closest to the tenders and had no reason to head anywhere else. Our chairs were under a tree where we’d have shade all morning since we didn’t want to pay for an umbrella ($29) or clamshell.

That’s the only reason we’re three rows back from the water.  I realized my sunglasses didn’t make it into the bag.  With my hat and shade from the trees it was fine.

Steve went in the water and found it was a bit cold. I never got wet.  Our chairs were set between two bars.  The first was the Margarita bar.  Steve didn’t like the mix and the drink was weak.  The second was a regular bar where I had a Bloody Mary.

Next round he had pina colada and I had ginger ale. Steve didn’t like that mix either and went back to Jack and coke for the last round. I had a Miami Vice.

The miami vice is colorful!

Great Stirrup Cay Afternoon

Steve had a hot dog when the stand opened. I had a bite and it was good. We tried the taco stand when it opened. The chicken one was okay but the fish was not good. Also there wasn’t cheese available – what’s up with that?  I had left my phone in the beach bag so no photos sadly.

Then we took pictures on the swing and from the view point before heading back to the tender.

Just big kids at heart.  We also had a good view of the ship.

It was a nice tender ride back to the ship where we dropped our bags in the cabin and went to garden cafe for some more lunch. Again my phone was still in the bag.

After our second lunch it was back to the cabin for a shower and nap.

We’re using one of our specialty dinners tonight at Cagney’s Steakhouse.  We headed there for a pre-dinner cocktail.  The bar is scheduled to open at 5 pm but it about 10 minutes later before the bartender took orders. I had a cosmo while Steve had his usual.

Cagney’s Dinner

We checked in for our reservation and was seated at a table by the window.

Our waiter introduced himself and brought the bread and butter and took drink orders.

I had wine with dinner.

It’s the biggest wine glass I recall using.  My first starter was Caesar salad.

Steve had shrimp trio.

For our next starter Steve had lobster bisque.

He enjoyed the hunks of lobster and I had the crab cake.

We both ordered the ribeye at medium temperature for our entrees. Both were overcooked but mine more so.

Not enough for me to send it back and wait for a replacement. The flavor was very good.

Steve had a loaded baked potato to go with his steak.

I had zucchini and truffle mashed potatoes. The truffle oil was overpowering so I wonder if next time I can order it without that.

We didn’t finish our steaks to same some room for dessert.

Steve had the apple pie.

I had the blueberry oatmeal crisp.

It was very good but way too many blueberries.  Below is our “bill”.

I added a tip fo rthe service.  We finished dinner a tad too late for the 7 pm magic show so just returned to our cabin and read and watched tv. Not up to battling the crowds to see howling at the moon or comedy.
