China: Grand Barony Xi’an

KayLynn · January 22, 2017 · 2 Comments

The hotel Sinorama Holidays booked for us in Xi’an was the Grand Barony Xi’an right in town.  There was a square across to the right where you could see people exercising and walking.

view from my room

This is a business and leisure hotel with about 250 rooms.  It had a fitness room but I never had time or inclination to check it out.

Room

My room was a standard double and well appointed.  The beds were comfortable.

I spent some of the room time relaxing in this chair online or even watching CNN!

The coffee setup was good and I took advantage of kettle each morning.

I had a hard time figuring out the light on the desk but did eventually.  The TV had a few western channels and I turned it on a couple of times for background noise while getting ready.

Somehow I neglected to get photos of the bathroom, but you can see it in the video below.  Like my other hotels in China, this one had a dental kit, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, shower gel, and a shower cap.  The slippers were nice.

Breakfast Buffet

The breakfast buffet was on the second floor and it was split amongst two rooms. Continental breakfast in one (juices, pastries, breads, cereals and yogurt) and all the other items in another. There was a fantastic pastry chef because all of the pastries (including my favorite chocolate croissant) were fantastic.

One of my favorite things was the great coffee machines (reminded of the ones I used in Italy), real coffee mugs, and real orange juice.  The hot food was not as good.

The second morning I tried a bowl of noodles.  The chef took a bowl of rice noodles and put them in boiling water for a minute.  Then he put them back in the bowl and added steaming broth.  The customer could then select ingredients to add to the bowl.  I had tomato and chicken.  Very good!

Unfortunately, I neglected to take any pictures of the food or restaurant seating.   The restaurant was very busy the first morning to the point I had to ask strangers if I could join them.

The second morning, I was at a table for two alone until a tour mate joined me.  The table was alongside a glass railing overlooking the lobby and we watched other Sinorama groups depart for earlier flights to Wuhan where we would see them the next morning.
