Carnival Horizon: Travel Day

KayLynn · November 11, 2021 · Leave a Comment

There was a lot to do the day before traveling to Miami for the Carnival Horizon cruise.  After checking in online for flights and hotel, I had an appointment for a covid rapid antigen test at CVS.

My results were back in an hour and after printing those out, I finished packing up.

Travel Morning

We had to get up early to make it to a 6:15 am flight. I say we because my husband was dropping me off.  Traffic was light and there wasn’t a line to print my bag tag or drop it off with American Airlines. There was just one person was in front of me in the TSA precheck line.

Where I had a delay was getting breakfast. People were lining up for the three eateries in this section of terminal 2 for coffee and food — all opened at 5 am.

Once I got through the line at Peets I enjoyed a turkey sausage, egg and cheese muffin with water.

Boarding was on time at 5:40 am. I am still Gold with American so had group 4. I lucked out and got an empty seat beside me. This is the first time I had the Aha lime and watermelon sparkling water. It was good!

The flight was great except for the family in the row in front of me who had two out of control kids and the mom was even worse.

Travel Afternoon

In Dallas there weren’t many eateries close to my connection gate so I decided to eat at Cantina Laredo.

I started with a strawberry mint margarita.

It was good but I couldn’t taste the mint at all. Also had a chicken taco salad which was not what I was expecting and just okay.

The next flight to Miami was packed. It was uneventful though other than taking off late due to rainstorm.

Travel Evening

Once in Miami, I had a LONG walk to baggage claim. We parked in terminal E and baggage was in terminal D. Then it was 35 minutes from landing to the luggage actually coming out. Finally I could call the hotel for the complimentary shuttle.  That took 20 minutes but I finally got to the hotel (Hampton Inn Miami Airport West) where Sister T. was waiting for me. She arrived a couple of hours earlier and had already checked in.

I had to show my ID at the front desk and also picked up free bottles of water as Hilton Honors gold member. After dropping bags in room, we headed to restaurant across the parking lot from hotel.

It was Chullos which is a Peruvian restaurant. They brought fried corn kernels for us and took our drink order.

It was an interesting snack but not something I’d go out of my way to eat again. We perused the menu and made our selections.

Sister T had half a chicken with salad and rice for her sides.

I had Tacu Tacu a lo probre which was refried rice/beans, grilled steak, sweet plantains and a fried egg.

We both really enjoyed our meals. Then it was back to the room to relax a while before hitting the sack.  Tomorrow we cruise!
