BlogHer ’11 Day 1: Life Well Lived Event

KayLynn · August 27, 2011 · Leave a Comment

This is a continuation of recapping our attendance at BlogHer ’11.  This blogging conference in San Diego had over 4,000 registrants.

Melrose and I were invited to attend a pre-BlogHer event, Life Well Lived, sponsored by P&G on Thursday August 4th.  It kicked off with an optional yoga session at 8 a.m, but we decided to skip that and arrive around 8:30 to drop our bags with the bell staff and get our bearings.
My husband dropped the two of us at the official BlogHer hotel, San Diego Marriott Marquis & Marina, and we were pleasantly surprised to find we could check into our room.  Even the room keys were  branded for BlogHer!
We unpacked and quickly headed down to Life Well Lived.

We saw so many bloggers I knew from past conferences and it was fun to introduce them to Melrose.  The keynote breakfast speaker was Gretchen Rubin who is the author of The Happiness Project.  Her talk was inspirational and a great way to start the day.  Our actions have a lot to do with our own happiness.

We then moved to another room where based on our answers to a questionnaire, Tide gave us a laundry identity.  It was very cute and I enjoyed learning about the various products to meet a wide variety of needs.  We both had cold water identities.

After that it was on a to lunch where the keynote address was by photographer Penny De Los Santos.  The pictures she shared and the stories behind them were very moving.  She even shared tips on how to get good pictures.

The afternoon was filled the following sessions:
How to Maintain Beautiful Hair by celebrity hair stylists, Sasha Bruer
Aromatherapy to Comfort and Soothe by Mindy Green
Holistic Skin Wellness by dermatologist, Dr. Jane Khoury

The hair session ended with all attendees getting their own Braun Satin 7 Active Ion brush which was so impressive. It calms the hair down with ions.

I was able to get a one-on-one session with Dr. Khoury and asked about a personal skin challenge.  She was great and it was nice to get a second opinion easily and free!
One of the things going on throughout the day were spa treatments.  We signed up for these in advance.  Most registrants were able to get a confirmed appointment, but others took advantage of no shows and were able to get treatments.

I had a wonderful foot and lower leg massage.  Melanie had her hair styled. Other attendees were also getting makeup sessions. How wonderful to be getting pampered in private cabanas by the pool!

Another all-day area was the Lobby Lounge where attendees could relax and also learn about the TeacherWishList.com which is a project sponsored by Bounty to ensure classrooms are properly stocked.

I hope P&G brings this back next year as it really started the conference off right.  It was done so well! After a quick farewell to our friends, we headed up to our rooms to get ready for the evening events.  More to come on that!
