2018 Goals: 3rd Quarter Update

Am I the only one that thinks this year has flown by?  It’s already time to do another quarterly update of my 2018 goals.  At the beginning of the year I set goals in three categories of life: health, wealth and travel.

Let’s take a look at how I’ve done this past quarter.

HEALTH

Weight Loss –  Grade: A. I had started the keto diet at the end of the 2nd quarter and I’ve continued on it.  I don’t really think of it as a diet but more a way of living.

I’ve lost 19 pounds as of this writing and lots of inches.  I’m down two pant sizes and feel much better in general.  It feels so good to finally be successful with this goal after failing the first half of the year.

Exercise – Grade I.  This is no longer a goal or measure I want to track.  I am wearing my apple watch most days which tracks my steps and continually try to improve in this area.  Now that our office has reopened and I go in 2-3 days a week my movement has naturally increased.

Hobbies – Grade A. Book club and blogging have been going well.  I’m on track to meet my goal of 25 books read this year.  Check out the list here.

WEALTH

Roth IRA – Grade A. I’m on plan to max out contributions on this including the catch up (for being older).

401K – Grade A. I actually remembered to go into our 401K plan page and change my contributions to the catch up category (annoying step my company requires).  However, I just learned the regular 401K contribution limit was increased $500 this year so will add $125 more per pay period the last two months to take advantage of this.  Next year it goes up another $500.

Spending – Grade D.  We had a lot of large expenses this summer some expected and others not.  Our air conditioner went kaput, our cat became ill and  airfare for our last kids cruise was much higher than anticipated.  I will be working on recovering our savings into the next year.

TRAVEL

Our balcony view in the early morning hours

This past quarter included a week of sun and fun in Cancun (trip report in the works) which we greatly enjoyed.  It was not expensive either as my sister let us use her timeshare and we flew on airline award tickets.

Greek Isles Cruise – Complete.  I was hoping to get the trip posts done by now but only have a few more installments.

Grandkids Visit – Complete. We visited our two grandsons this spring and I’ll actually see the 9 year old again this month while in the area on business.  We have a new grandbaby coming very soon though so future visits to come!

Kids Cruise – Grade I. This trip is coming up in the 4th quarter and will complete our goal of taking all 5 adult children on a cruise.  All plans are made so all we have left to do is enjoy it.

This quarter I’m pretty happy with the status of these goals and glad to have just one red mark.  How are you doing with your 2018 goals?
